Spectacular Race Time Is Here!

(Lake Geneva, Wis., Monday, August 1, 2006)- “It’s racetime!” will be the cry in less than 48 hours as “The Ultimate Racing Spectacular” invades Lake Geneva Raceway on Thursday, August 3.

 

In a first and only time ever show, the Hoosier Outlaw Sprint Series (HOSS) winged asphalt warriors comes to town headed up by point leader Greg Wheeler of Fort Wayne, Indiana and 2005 Champion Tim Cox of Park City, Illinois.

 

Upwards of 20 competitors from Wisconsin, Indiana, Illinois, Ohio and Iowa are expected to bring their wild winged short track machines featuring a 1,600 pound weight rule and 410 cubic inches putting out in the neighborhood of 650 plus horsepower. Expected lap times are in the 13 second range for the one-third mile semi-banked asphalt oval.

 

Joining the asphalt outlaw sprints for the first time ever anywhere are the stars and cars of the Big 8 Late Model Stock Car Series. Leading the list of entries is third generation motorsports competitor Erik Darnell of Beach Park, NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series rookie leader. Darnell will be behind the wheel of “Dr. Tooth” Ken Johnson, the Antioch racing dentist’s late model. Over 40 stock car competitors from Michigan, Wisconsin and Illinois are on the expected entry list in this regional championship point event.

 

Add the local full bodied weapons stock cars that compete regularly at Lake Geneva Raceway and this unique program offers fans a wide variety of motorsports excitement on one family priced event.

 

Retired race track owner/promoter Ray Toft and former driver and Lake Geneva champion Dave Watson will serve as co-grand marshals. Johnny Reimer and his restored original A3 open wheel modified coupe that set the very first track record on the old one-quarter mile oval is planning to relive the past with fans as well as take a lap behind the wheel of the historic race car.

 

Grandstands open at 5 p.m. with time trials at 5:45, a special autograph session at 7 on the grandstand side, pre-race ceremonies at 7:15 with the first race taking the green flag at 7:30 p.m. Rain date is Friday, August 4 with the same starting times. Grandstand tickets are $16 for adults, $8 for youth ages 8-14 and free admission for youngsters under age 8 accompanied by an adult. All pit passes are $30 for this event.
