September 9, 2006; Lake
Geneva, WI. -
What a difference one day could make, as temperatures in the mid
80’s race fans enjoyed Friday night here. Well that disappeared and
Saturday night at Lake Geneva raceway seemed more like fall, than the
last days of summer. With temperatures at 60 degrees and wind from
the east, the thrill of the close features finishes, were the only
thing to make it hot.
But over 200 former employees, drivers, fans
and former promoters showed up to say good bye to the place that
gave them a lot for the past 43 years. Jack “at the track’ Biddison
asked the bone chilled crowd, those famous words. “Who’s here from
Wisconsin and who’s here from Illinois”? In super late model action,
defending champion Jamie Wallace from nearby Pell Lake won the 40
lap feature. Former champion Jeremy Bloomberg of Hampshire, Illinois
made a visit to the raceway and won the 30 lap event for the
Performance unlimited sportsman feature. The best support division
in
Wisconsin, the McHenry Limousine super stocks feature went to points
leader Adam Regnier of Twin Lakes, in the John Jindra Memorial Race,
sponsored by Quality Tire/American Car Care Center of Spring Grove.
This was Adam’s eighth 30 lap feature win, for the final season
here.Matt Booker of Woodstock,IL. made it two nights in a row.
Booker won the 15 lap feature for the Basic International cars.
The green was thrown in the super late model feature with Rob
Summers out front. Joe Fischer got around Randy Rodger for second
within two laps. but now Jamie Wallace was right on his heels. By
lap ten Wallace was second with the leader way out front. The first
Yellow Book USA caution period came on lap twelve, when Fischer and
Mike Gunderson got together. That was the break the challenger
needed, as Wallace moved under Summers when the green appeared one
more time. The new race was between Terry Patnode and Jason Hicks
the fast qualifier, for third spot. On lap sixteen Wallace tried one
more time to get past Summers and prevailed on that trip under him.
The next caution was on lap twenty six when three back marker cars
got together. On the restart Wallace held back Summers, but Hicks
was now right there too. Within a few laps Hicks got around Summers
and the chase was on for the leader. That never happened as Wallace
marched to victory, Hicks was second, with Potter third, Mike
Meyerhofer fourth. John Baumeister fifth and Sonny Schoffen sixth.
The super stock feature would go non stop, with Bob Moeller off the
outside pole climbing in front. Al Kuphal and Shane Sapp battled for
that second spot, drawing a dead heat lap after lap. Sapp got the
upper hand on lap seven, but points leader
Adam Regnier was trying to move forward. On lap ten Regnier would
move in front and never look back for the win. Scott Norton
claimed second, with Tom Roney, Moeller, Sapp and John Maki Jr.
rounding out the top six.
Fred Boal slipped in front at the drop of the green, holding that
spot for four laps. Then Boal dropped out with handling problems and
Jermey Bloomberg who started mid pack was now the new leader and won
the event even thou Cliff Adee haunted Bloomberg the remainder of
the event. At the checkered Bloomberg was some four lengths ahead,
with Adee ahead of Erik Pierce the points leader. James Swan was
fourth, Kenny Smart fifth and Eddie May sixth.
It took Matt Booker just five laps to move in front for the win of
the BIC feature, despite numerous challenges from Tom Homan who took
second. Steve Doherty the quick timer was third. Leo Bujak was
fourth, rookie Ronnie Mink in his best
finish was fifth and Lori Jacoby another rookie was sixth for her
best finish of her short career.
Next Saturday night Quality auto and truck repair of Kenosha will
sponsor the race program. The sportsman championship will be that
night, in their last appearance ever for weekly action. The next
time race fans see these cars, will be part of the four day Victor
Ford of Wauconda,IL./Budlight fall cars, when they are here in a Mid
American points series show. The super late models and super stocks
will be here too. Originally the super stocks were having their
champion that night, but now it’s changed to the 23rd.along with the
super late models. The bandolero and legends are also on that 23rd
card, but not their championships until the following Friday part of
the small car world championships. Time trials this Saturday will be
at 5:45 pm. racing begins at 7.The entry forms for the fall classic
