Feature Wins!

August 19, 2006; Lake
Geneva, WI.
- It was an ideal weather night
at Lake Geneva Raceway, for the weekly Saturday night race program.
Tonight three sponsors were on hand. Turbo Blue racing fuel, Jim
Adams Auto Body along with Dowe and Wagner heating and air
conditioning. The final round of the “No Bull” series for the super
late models took place with Landry Potter of Genoa City winning the
title for the final series here .Jason Hicks of Elkhorn won his
first career feature for the super late models. Hicks a second
generation driver collected $1000 for his win, n the 50 lap feature.
John Maki Jr. from
Antioch, Illinois won his second McHenry Limousine super stock 30
lap feature race, in a close finish. Erik Pierce of Lake in the
Hills,IL. won his fourth feature of the season, in the Performance
Unlimited sportsman race cars.
The super late model feature took two restarts
to get that first lap in. One of the problems was points leader
Eddie May’s race car lost power, causing Sonny Schoffen to
slide into the back of him, with considerable damage to that mount.
Both vehicles never returned for the next green. Don Collins shot
out front with Kenny Joosten, Rick Corso and John Baumeister in hot
pursuit. Movement came on lap three, as Terry Patnode running fifth,
advanced to third, with Corso
now second and Randy Rodgers fourth. By lap nine, Patnode was
second, after a tough battle with Corso, who now had Jason Hicks
along side him. The first Yellow Book USA caution period came on lap
twelve when a spectacular incident took
place right in front of the crowd. Wallace and Joosten made contact
with the wall. They crashed hard, with parts flying everywhere.
With the next green Patnode who took the lead just
before that caution moved back in front, with Hicks right with the
leader. Before long Hicks was along Patnode and on lap sixteen the
top spot changed hands. The next caution came on lap twenty six,
when Landry Potter and Rodgers got together. Then on lap thirty
four, when Don Collins blew his motor. This left a lot of clean
chores for the safety crew. On the restart Mike Meyerhofer nearly
charged in front, but Hicks came right back in front. This continued
throughout the final laps as both drivers put on a great show. Hicks
came across the new line first, with Meyerhofer next, Patnode
third, a recovered Potter fourth, Corso fifth and Rob Summers sixth.
Seth Lootans paced the field as the double greens flew high in the
air ,when the super stock feature began. Right behind the leader Ken
Eisbrenner and Randy Schneider diced back and forth for second, with
Eisbrenner always ahead at the line. On lap nine, Al Kuphal and Tom
Roney tangled stopping the race for it’s only caution. As the race
began again, Bob Moeller charged up the middle and on lap ten there
was a new leader. Midway Moeller had a good lead, with Lootans,
Eisbrenner and Joe DeCubellis in a cluster. Suddenly John Maki Jr.
entered the picture with points leader Adam Regnier right behind
him. Maki was really hooked up, moving from fifth on lap sixteen, to
fourth two laps later, to third at lap twenty.
It stayed that way until lap twenty three, when Maki
advanced to second, two laps later Regnier was third, as this was
shaping up to be some great racing for the final laps. With three
laps to go, Regnier got under Maki coming off turn two. But then
Maki shot right back into second. With the white out, Maki inched
ahead of Moeller, but then Moeller came right back. Maki raced down
the back straight away in a dead heat for the lead. Coming off turn
three, Maki moved in front, with Regnier now back in the mix. Maki
came across the line first with Regnier nipping Moeller for second.
Lootans was fourth, with Eisbrenner next, Shane Sapp got DeCubellis
at the wire for quite a different story after last weeks contest.
Visiting John Fiorita led the first four laps of the sportsman
feature with Mike Smart taking over on lap number five. Before long,
his brother Kenny Smart was along of the leader taking over
the top spot on lap nine. Points leader Erik Pierce was next to lead
the race grabbing the top spot before lap twelve. The only caution
came on lap sixteen, when Jeremy Olson spun spun all by his self. On
the next get go John Janssen was all over the leader for those final
nine laps, but Pierce was up
to the call winning another feature event. Janssen was second, Kenny
Smart third, with fast timer Bobby Giers next. Visiting Shawn
Wiltjer was fifth and Adam Mass completed the top six.
This coming Saturday night August 27th. R A Adams Enterprises of
McHenry, IL. will sponsor the final Saturday night trailer race
ever. The raceway will close the end of the year and never reopen
again.
The super late models, super stocks and Rascal
outlaw series, will race before the wild trailer race. Time trials
begin at 5:45 pm. racing is on tap at 7 pm.
