One of the BIC heat races was won by Shawn Kasten.

Randy Rodgers of Lake Geneva, a former co-champion won the 50 lap Mid Season championship feature for the super late model cars. Craig Mertes of Antioch, Illinois won his first 30 lap feature of the season, for the McHenry Limousine super stocks. Cliff Adee out of Minnesota won his first career feature in the Performance Unlimited sports-
man cars and Leo Bujak from nearby Spring Grove,IL. won his first 20 lap feature of the season, for the Basic International cars.

The super late model feature was just one lap old when John Baumeister spun in front of most of the field, but everyone missed him, causing a Yellow Book USA caution period. Sonny Schoffen driving the Chuck Schneider race car, regained the lead with Rob Summers, Kenny Joosten and Rockford regular Jeremy Miller, who’s class had the night off behind him. By lap nine Miller had worked his way to second, with Randy Rodgers the fast qualifier. Fran Prestay, Joosten and Jacob Humphrey next. Summers moved back to second on lap eleven, but then Miller came back four laps later, as things remained
the same until a lap twenty caution stopped the race one more time, for a Miller and Landry Potter get together. Miller never returned on the restart, Potter came back twice, but dropped out each time. On the next green Schoffen had Rodgers right behind him and two laps later there was a new leader. Points leader Eddie May quickly followed dropping Schoffen to third. There was one more caution, but Rodgers never lost it for his first win of the season. May was second, Schoffen third, Humphrey was next, followed by James Swan in Terry Patnode’s race car and Prestay taking sixth.

Michael Olson led the first two laps of the super stock feature, before Al Kuphal slipped in front of the field. Lap four visiting from South Carolina Jamie Starks lost a wheel and the caution came out. When racing resumed Kuphal moved back in front, with Sam Redman all over the leader. Craig Mertes was now third by lap seven, after a great battle with Tom  Jastrab. There was some excellent side by side racing, but Bob Moeller running a tight midpack, slowed dramatically on lap ten and the caution came out, for a “just in case”. This gave the field an even closer formation, as Redman grabbed the lead after another lap.Kuphal held onto second, but Mertes was  now knocking on the door. On lap sixteen Mertes moved into second, one lap later into the lead. Once in front the advantage never grew to more than a few feet as Redman ran the best of his rookie career, before Jastrab took over second on lap twenty six. Points leader Adam Regnier worked his way past Jack Rubach, then Redman the same lap and into second with one to go. That final lap was close but Mertes held his own line and took the
win, with Regnier claiming second despite a late caution. Jastrab was next with fast timer Dave Edwards fourth, Redman held onto fifth and Rubach sixth. in this real great showing by the top eleven.

The sportsman feature went non stop as Cliff Adee from his second row starting position moved in front at the start and never looked back to win the race over a fast charging Erik Pierce who took second. Bobby Giers the quick qualifier was third, Gary Norton was along side him in fourth. Adam Mass was fifth and John Janssen sixth in a very close contest.

Tim Jendrycki led the opening lap of the BIC feature before flying onto the infield as Matt Booker moved by, until lap seven when Robert Palka took over the top spot. That only lasted two laps before the eventual winner Leo Bujak inched his way in front of a tight running field and held on for the win.Nick Henning was second, with Evan Townsend third, Keven Lynn in his
best run was fourth, Tom Homan took fifth and Ryan Andrews grabbed sixth.

Next Saturday night is round two of the Five Star race car bodies “No Bull” series event. The super stocks, sportsman and Lusia’s pizzeria mini-mods will all be here. Time trials begin at 5:45 pm. the first race is at 7 sharp. There will be no increase in spectator admission prices for this show. The Five Star company will sponsor a night at the races.
