First Career Win For
Blake Brown at LGR! Two In a Row for Jeff Schultz!

June 30, 2006; Lake
Geneva, WI.
-
Yellow Book USA sponsored the Friday night weekly race program at
Lake Geneva Raceway. The pit area was packed bu train was in many
locations around the race track, so only a small crowd saw
some very great racing. Franksville’s Blake Brown a rookie driver in
the INEX Bandolero class won the 15 lap feature. This was Brown’s
first win of his short career.A few weeks ago, Blake’s mount
received extensive damage in hot laps
and missed a week due to that incident.
Jeff Schultz of
Lake Geneva won his second weapons feature race in a row,in the 20
lap event.Elgin, Illinois driver Jeff LeSage had a great night in
the Rascal Outlaw group. Jeff took a clean sweep, by taking fast
time, winning his heat and the 20 lap feature. The 15 lap Perfection
auto body INEX legends feature winner has not been announced as of
Sunday July 2nd. at 11:45 pm. INEX officials must determine if the
winning race car was within the rules. The winner should be
announced by Tuesday July 4th. Steve Doherty of Rockford,IL. won
another 15 lap Basic International car feature on the last lap.
Sonny Schoffen of Crystal Lake,IL. won another 25 lap feature race.
The evening was marred again by a hard
one 360 roll by Kyle Justis, on the first lap of the bandolero heat.
Justis was not injured, but his race car could not be repaired
in time for the feature, dropping him from the points lead, Kyle has
held since the third night. Alex Arelano and Blaz Daul both received
extensive damage to their race cars in that incident, but no
injuries were reported and their night was over.
Fourteen year old Kyle Lynn led the first two laps of the rascal
outlaw feature with Jim Thiel slipping in front on the next go
round, leading the race until a lap seven racing incident as the top
two were fighting for that important spot, bringing the first Yellow
Book USA caution period. John LeSage and Thiel both went to the
rear, along with Jeff LeSage for also being
involved. On the restart rookie Jason Mahoney moved in front one lap
before last weeks feature winner Mark Findley scooted around him.
One lap later Roger Aronson in his first appearance of the season,
got together with Mahoney and the race came to another halt. With
the green flying again, Findley found his position being challenged
by a recovered Jeff LeSage who came from the back of the field one
more time. LeSage took the lead with just five laps to go and went
on to win the race, over Findley, Aronson, Mahoney, Josh Benkert and
Chris Bedore with problems all night.
The bandolero feature brought Hope Bidlack in front of the field
from her second row starting position. Quickly Kyle Palma charged in
front and pulled away from the field, as Cody Daul got around
Bidlack on lap four. Just before the only caution of the race Blake
Brown moved around Steven Grossman to take over third. Palma easily
walked away from the field, Bidlack dropped out again with problems
that have plagued her since the second week of action. On lap eleven
Palma dropped out for some unknown reason and Daul became the
leader. On lap thirteen it was a dead heat between Daul and Brown.
Coming off turn four with the white flag out, Daul spun and Brown
went on to win, despite numerous challenges from Grossman who
captured second. Aaron Moyer was third, with car number two next in
his first visit here. Daul recovered for fifth and Brandon Heisler
was sixth.
Anthony Vito led the first eight laps of the weapons feature, before
Mike Herwald grabbed the lead in a tight cluster up front. By lap
eleven fast timer Jeff Schultz was knocking on Herwald’s door and
with two laps to go, even with a group all up front, Schultz took
the lead and won his second feature in two weeks. Herwald was
second, with Andy Krueger at his side, Reid Kahrs Jr. was in a three
deep sprint for the checkered, Mark Tomasi and Michael Shorten
rounded out the top six in a great finish.
Carrie Dygon and Paul Edmundson dueled for the top spot, with Paul
Dygon in the mix for the first five laps. Edmundson clearly moved in
front coming off turn two with Andy Evraets joining the fray for
second place. Two laps later things got even tighter, as Ralph
Gentile and Doctor Tooth Ken Johnson moved in on the gaggle of cars
in front of them. Edmundson’s had a good lead by lap ten, when
Evraets grabbed second, Johnson moved into third one lap later and
Sonny Schoffen was next by lap thirteen. Michael Kruschke got by
Gentile on lap sixteen and things at the top were so close.
Edmundson held a tight line and Evraets tried everything to get
around. On lap eighteen Johnson slipped under Evraets, but to no
avail as Evraets came right back to second. On lap twenty it was
side by side racing at the top, entering lap twenty one Evraets was
the new lead by inches, going into turn one Edmundson had problems,
spinning in that tight group of cars and the first Yellow Book USA
caution of the race ensued. On the restart Johnson out ran Evraets
to the corner, as Schoffen got by him one lap later. With the white out, Schoffen drove along side Johnson one more time
and finally secured the lead and went ahead to win the race, ahead of
Johnson, Evraets, Gentile, Kruschke and Brian Ulrich who took fast
time.
On Friday July 7th.The
formula indy cars return for a visit along with five of the regular
divisions. Time trials are slated for 6pm. racing at 7:30 sharp. The
Friday night August 4th. has been cancelled due to a special on
Thursday night August 3rd.All divisions will race on either that
Thursday night or be added to the Saturday night show. Check the
website for an update very soon.
