The Formula Indy cars made an appearance at LGR. Vern Brown won their feature, them posed with LGR Junior Fan, Cheyenne Hill.

This was Josh’s second win in a row for a rookie in the division. Burlington’s Randy Schneider won the very close super stock feature race. It was Randy’s first win of his career, using Jamie Starks race car. The formula indy open wheel cars were here, as 62 year old Vern Brown won his first race
here this season. Saturday nights show was sponsored by Lynch GM super
store in Burlington. John Fischer was presented with two plaques. The first
for all his support of auto racing. The second for to the Lynch dealership for
their support of the raceway. Both plagues were in the name of Henry H.
Babicz who is the late Father of Mike Babicz the announcer on Saturday night. The 29th. annual BARS “let’s go racing” auto show was part of the 13th.annual motorsports jamboree sponsored by Lynch last Saturday at the dealership. A special Mid American points series program was also part of this show. Sonny Schoffen of Crystal Lake,IL. won his first ever 40 lap feature race, in the Kenny Joosten race car.

The super late model feature got off to a rocky start, as there was a group of
race cars doing the brake check game, causing a melee through the field, resulting in a complete restart. Finally under way as John Baumeister charged out in front of the field, with Josh Wallace, Mike Lange, Brandon Hill and Mike Meyerhofer in hot pursuit. Three laps later, Wallace was along side the leader, racing side by side until Wallace came in front on lap five. One lap later Landry Potter running  twelfth dropped out with overheating problems. Before that lap was over Baumeister was back in front, with Eddie May briefly getting by Wallace. It was a show to remember, up front with a too close to call. Wallace came back in front with Hill now in the mix. Kenny Joosten and Meyerhofer were in a dead heat for fifth. Baumeister wasn’t content with second, moving back in front from laps eleven through twenty two, racing his own line in brilliant form.

The next go round Wallace inched ahead, with Hill in his new mount following the new leader. So the pressure up front was still there,as the top ten looked look a parade lap. On lap twenty six Meyerhofer was on the move, working his way past May and then moving along side Hill. Those final ten laps were an unbelievable show for the crowd on hand. Meyerhofer moved up to challenge Wallace as they raced to the checkered in a dead heat until the final lap. Wallace won the event, with Meyerhofer second, Hill claimed third, May was fourth, Wayne Freimund in his first appearance of the season was fifth and Jason Hicks sixth in the best feature in this year.

The super stock feature was another great race as Josh Matz slipped in front
of Sam Redmond, Vaughn Lesko and Brad Drach. Quickly Randy Schneider
coming from row three crept into second by lap three and into the lead after
a great fender to fender run with Matz until lap eight. Once in front Schneider
moved to a two car advantage. Matz now had Adam Regnier to contend with
with Tom Roney was fourth.Everything remained the same until Roney received the black flag for smoking on lap eighteen.

Tom Jastrab,John Maki Jr.Jack Rubach and fast timer Scott Norton were glued together behind the top three. With two laps to go Regnier got inside Schneider and tried to get the lead, with the white flag out. It was too close to call, going into one Regnier was ahead by about six inches. Schneider came off two slightly the leader. Coming into three Schneider came ahead by inches, holding that margin to the wire. Regnier was second, with Maki a close third, Norton nipped Matz for fourth and Rubach was sixth in this excellent finish and non stop event.

This coming Saturday night, race fans will get their first look at the legend and bandolero race cars. The super late models and super stocks will also race. On Sunday at 12 noon, the first of two demo derbies will take place. Over 100cars are expected. The second demo will be the very last show ever at the raceway on October 14th.for the finale of 44 years of racing here.
