Race Show Goes On In Between The Raindrops!
By Dale R. Erdmann

June 9, 2006;  Lake Geneva, WI. -  It was a wet rainy night at Lake Geneva Raceway Friday night for the family fun race program. A faithful crowd came out to watch the weekly show that nearly was completed. An on again, off again rain fell throughout the night and then stopped the program before all  features could run. Officials would like to thank the Basic International and weapons drivers for all their help to dry the track from time to time.

The Weapons feature was won by last week's runner-up, Andy Krueger.

These cars have the treaded tires needed to run on a wet track. Run in a
steady rain, the 20 lap feature for the BIC cars was won by Bob Koch of
McHenry, Illinois. This was the first appearance for the defending champ.
Home town driver Andy Krueger nearly took a clean sweep. The former mini modified driver took fast time, was second in his heat and won the 20 weapons feature. A brief no rain period took place just in time for the 30 lap feature for the late model race cars, as Union Grove’s Keith Tolf won his second feature of the season.

The late model feature started off with Jeff Graf out front for the first three laps with Paul Edmundson at his side before going by to take the lead on the next go round. Third place Andy Evraets was working on Graf, with the field still looking like a parade lap. Quickly Doctor Tooth Ken Johnson slipped his way past Graf, with last weeks feature winner Brian Ulrich next. The leader had worked his way to a three car advantage as Evraets, Johnson, Ulrich and Carrie Dygon put on a show for any position changes. A light mist started just as Evraets moved along side Edmundson, as the lead changed on lap fifteen. This was a short lived feat, as Keith Tolf grabbed the front spot the next time round. On lap twenty heavy rain came. The BIC’s and weapons cars helped to dry the track and the race started for just one more lap of racing. Then it rained again and the race was called complete, as Tolf won the event over Ulrich, fast qualifier Sonny Schoffen, first nighter Michael Kruschke, Joe Rusicano and Evraets.

Former BIC driver Michael Shorten paced the weapons field for the first five laps, before defending champion Reid Kahrs Jr. crept in front, with first nighter Brian Hillringhouse following the new leader. Shorten bounced off the wall as he got squeezed and Chad Ludtke got caught up in the melee. With just three laps to go, Andy Krueger gave the rain soaked crowd
a real show, as he inched ahead in front of the grandstand and took thelead and came home the victor. Hillringhouse nipped Mark Tomasi for second, with Kahrs Jr. next, followed by Sonny Schoffen in the Anthony Vito rent a race car and another hometwon driver Mike Herwald sixth.

Robert Palka moved in front of the field at the drop of the green in the BIC feature event. An incident between Bob Koch and Evan Townsend sent Koch to the back on the second lap and the only Yellow Book USA caution period ensued. On the restart Kevin Hill flew in front, with newtrack record holder for a one lap run, Steve Doherty was next. On lap six
Doherty gained the top spot with Leo Bujak next behind Hill. It took Koch fifteen laps to caught Doherty and come home the winner, despite the lap two mess. Bujak was third, with Tom Homan fourth, Matt Booker fifth and Hill sixth, in a very close race.

Next Friday night Nestles of Burlington will sponsor the night. Time Trials for the six regular divisions to race will begin at 6pm.races are at 7:30 sharp. The first one hundred and fifty grandstand admission fans will receive a Dairy Association milk can bank from the Edmundson racing team and their sponsor.
