Corso, Regnier and Joosten Score at LGR!
By Dale R. Erdmann and Kim Straube

May 7, 2005;  Lake Geneva, WI. - It was just one of those nights at Lake Geneva Raceway Saturday. You know the ones that you try to forget. Not because of who won, but something we have not enjoyed all but one night of the 2005 season. Yes. The cold.  And tonight numerous Yellow Book USA caution periods.

Feature winners were Rick Corso of McHenry, Illinois who won the curfew shortened 26 lap out of 40 lap feature. Adam Regnier of Twin Lakes who again was only one out of two Wisconsin winners both nights. Regnier won the accident plagued 25 lap feature race. Kenny Joosten of Wonder Lake,IL. won the 30 lap sportsman feature and Brandon Scurto of Carol Stream,IL. won the 25 lap super mini cup feature.

A battle of the 43's took place during the Sportsman feature between John Janssen (outside) and Jamie Dorsey.

Quick qualifier Jeff Holmgren Jr. of East Troy won the “Al Schill Jr.”
memorial dash for the super late models. Josh Wallace of Pell Lake won the
Chucks storage super stock dash for cash. Gary Norton of nearby Hebron,IL. won the sportsman dash and Brandon Scurto won the visiting super mini cups dash.

Rick Corso shot out front at the drop of the greens, but before that first lap could be recorded Mike Meyerhofer and Rob Summers got together. The next Yellow Book USA caution period was for Vincent Merry’s spin for the next  stop. Then one lap later Jamie Wallace broke something and smashed hard into the wall, but escaped injury. Finally under way Corso was again the leader, with Fran Prestay next. Brandon Hill was third until Kent Burkoth caught him. Terry Patnode definitely
had the fastest car on the track along with Jeff Holmgren Jr.as these two were on the move. Patnode moved past Hill on lap four with Holmgren following one lap later.

On lap twenty four Prestay spun and out came another caution flag. This was just what Patnode wanted, quickly moving past Burkoth as the green came back out. Then two laps later Merry and Michael Kruschke tangled. That was the final caution as it was 11:02 pm. Corso was awarded the win, with Patnode  never getting the chance to challenge the winner, but taking second. Burkoth was third nipping Holmgren at the wire, Hill was fifth and Mike Simon Jr. rounding out the top six.

Jamie Everett paced the field of the super stock feature just one lap before Mike Hansen took over the lead. The first of more than the usual amount of slow downs would follow, the first on lap seven, when Randy Schneider running second tagged the leader and around he went. This gave Adam Regnier who was third at the time a clear shot for the win. John Maki Jr. moved in on the leader just after the green came back out, but Joe DeCubellis wanted the same spot. This gave the leader a big break as the second place runners put on a show for second, with the leader moving away from the pack.

Then Schneider and Hansen tried to prove a point to each other causing another caution on lap nineteen. Three more cautions came the same lap before finally getting under way to bring another slowdown on lap twenty as Seth Lootens a first night driver that made the dash, crashed into the turn two tires. Lootens was not hurt but his night was over. There would be five full laps of real racing as Regnier stayed in front for the win. DeCubellis and Ken Eisbrenner both nipped Maki, Tom Roney would take fifth and Scotty Norton came in sixth.

Danny Powell climbed in front of the sportsman field as the feature got it’s first lap in.Rick Rowlett, John Fischer and Mike Smart. Somehow Kenny Joosten was able to move up to second by lap nine, then into the lead on lap eleven, just before Powell spun in front of the pack, bringing out the only caution.

Joosten walked the field until lap twenty two, when Jeremy Bloomberg caught him. This set up a great finish, as Jamie Dorsey put on the pressure finishing second just behind the winner, Bloomberg was third, with Erik Pierce, John Janssen and Kenny Smart so close at the checkered.

The super mini cup feature went until lap seventeen before a caution, after Eric C.Gehrke led laps one through five. Brandon Scurto took over the front position and even with numerous challenges took the win over Ken Jones, Jeff Meyers the fast timer. Gehrke was next with Andy Forster and Kevin DeVries sixth.

The mini modifieds join the regular divisions next Saturday night. Time trials are at 5:45 pm. racing at 7 sharp. The Lions Club special is this Thursday night at 7pm. for racing. On Sunday afternoon May 15th. at 3pm. a demo derby will take place.
