October 8, 2005;  Lake Geneva, WI. - The 2005 Midwest Enduro Stock Car and Small Car Series season concluded at the Lake Geneva Raceway. Carol Stream, IL driver Phil Speciale collected his first Series win of the season by winning the "Goblin 250" enduro main event.

Photo Highlights

Speciale was the overall winner and first in the "A" class over Darryl Traber. In the "B" class it was Mark Tomasi over Geoff VeZain and in the "C" class it was Leonard Reimer over Larry Moen.

Steve Doherty dominated the 4-cylinder Small Car Series "Goblin 100". Doherty lead all 100 laps and lapped the entire field and was one lap ahead of second place finisher roger Schultz. Nathan Matz, who finished sixth in the final event was crowned the 2005 Midwest Enduro Small Car Series point champion. The top ten in the final Small Car Series point standings include; Matz, Lenny Adams, Dylan Helfenstein, Dave Goebel, Valerie Epright, Jennifer Reichert, Steve Bayer, Jack Rabey, Todd Lunsford and Jasyn Brown. Goebel was also crowned the 2005 Chuck’s Radiator "rookie of the year".

In the Chuck’s Radiator "Goblin 15" powder puff event, Tina Sparks was victorious over Becky Pinkalla. There was some excitement during the 15 lap event when then race leader Jo Heath’s motor exploded out of her father Gerald Hayes entry. At the finish it was Sparks, Pinkalla, Shannon McCarthy, Angela Shaw and Amber Strait.

The 2005 Midwest Enduro Stock Car Series point chase went to the final event of the season with Matt Schlick holding a slim margin over two time Series champion Tom Barnharst at the Conclusion of the season. The 2005 top ten finishing drivers include; Schlick, Barnharst, Traber, Tracy Carr, Erich Iversen, Donald Paskiewicz, Chuck Pinkalla, Julie DeNood, Tom Arnold and Phil Speciale.

Scott Bodoh claimed the 2005 Chuck’s Radiator "rookie of the year" honors. Bodoh won the honors convincingly over second place finishing Tom DeYoung.

The 250 lap main event was paced early by Brian Hillringhouse from his pole position. Rick Cregger was quick to the point however as he forged ahead by lap five. The field was slowed on lap eight when 2004 race winner Jeff Jeras’s mount limped to the pit area after a major altercation on the front straightaway. By lap 25 Jared Pinkalla and Cregger were swapping for the lead with Cregger listed on top at that point followed by Pinkalla, Les Wiedenhoeft, Barnharst and Mike Herwald. Pinkalla went to the pit area on lap 42 to change a flat and now the Speciale brothers moved in to the top five. Art Speciale dropped out of the event on lap 61 with mechanical problems just before the mandatory fuel stop on lap 65. The top five at this point were Phil Speciale, Wiedenhoeft, Cregger, Bob Stubblefield and Traber.

After the break Speciale broke out from the rest of the field and was looking as though he was going to lap the entire field on the slickened track surface. By the next stop on lap 130, Speciale nearly succeeded as the only other car on the lead lap was Traber. The top five at this point were Speciale, Traber, Tracy Carr, Stubblefield and Tom Waldman.

The top five for the next 65 circuits did not change much except for Tomasi entering the top five replacing Wiedenhoeft. Speciale continued to set a torrid pace and did have the entire field one lap down as the drivers entered the pit area for the last time on lap 189 for fuel.

With Speciale now a full lap on the entire field it was going to be tough for anyone to make up the difference unless Speciale was to make a mistake or have a mechanical problem. The field was slowed for the last time on lap 241 for a yellow flag as Wiedenhoeft’s trunk lid broke off and was dragging on the track causing a possible fire. The field was soon underway with Speciale out front as Traber closed the gap but was still one lap down of the leader. Speciale led the rest of the way to capture his first overall win of the season. Most of the field was still running after the 250 lap event after another action packed event. The top five running order at the stripe were Speciale, Traber, Stubblefield, Jim Plautz and Tomasi.

Next on the Series agenda is a drivers meeting on Saturday November 5 at the Low Places Saloon right at the Lake Geneva Raceway grounds. The meeting will discuss the 2006 season, rules, etc.

Tickets are now available for the 11th Annual Midwest Enduro Stock Car Series awards banquet scheduled for February 4.
