Day Number One of the Bud Light Fall Classic!

October 1, 2005;  Lake Geneva, WI. -  It was the first day of the Bud Light fall Classic as nearly 225 drivers from around the region jammed the pit area at Lake Geneva Raceway Saturday afternoon. The weather was ideal and race fans were looking forward to thefirst ever Big 8 series showing here,along with all the other events. The largest crowd to ever witness the first day of the show were on hand.

Dave Melahn drove to victory in one of the Super Stock heats.

The heats were being run as the show started, with Bob Moeller from McHenry, Illinois winning the dash. The heats went to Dave Melahn of Burlington, with Josh Wallace of Pell Lake winning the second in the Burlington Glass street stock class.

The super late model dash went to Landry Potter of Genoa City.The Wisconsin mini sport truck heats went to Sam Hauden of Dodge and the second to Kyle Quella, a 18 year old driver from Appleton, who had fast time the last two years. In the pure stocks fast qualifier Steve Doherty of Woodstock,IL. won the dash. The enduro class heats went to Mark Tomas of Wind Lake and Jeff Shultz of Salem.T he Midwest Modifieds had just gotten their heat started when coming off of turn four for the first lap to be recorded an incident occurred and one of the cars went over the wheels of their fellow competitior and the race car went into the fence about five feet off the pavement and then was collected by the fence coming to rest facing the track. While in the air at impact the fence did it’s job,but debris at impact sent the debris into the grandstand injuring six race fans. The race was called and the rest of the program was cancelled due to the five race fans being sent to Elkhorn Hospital and the section of fence knocked down.

A total of six race fans were injured one of which refused treatment. Four were treated and release by morning. The condition of the other race fans was not known at press time. Roger Aronson a rascal outlaw driver from Antioch was contracted to have his Waconda,IL. company rebuilt the fence, this work started around 11pm.
