Seven Super Late Model Features for May at LGR!

August 5, 2005;  Lake Geneva, WI. -  It was a special race program as the NASCAR topuring elite series were to be in town the following night at Lake Geneva Raceway, Friday night. Eddie May of Crystal Lake,Illinois won his third straight 40 lap feature race for the Budweiser super late models, his seventh win of the season. Matt Booker of Wonder Lake,IL. won his first career 15 lap feature for the Double R towing Basic International race cars. Curt Thomazin of Elkhorn won his third Lusia’s pizzeria mini modified 15 lap feature of the year and Erik Pierce of Lake in the Hills,IL. won his third Performance unlimited sportsman features for 25 laps.

Curt Thomazin (#40) held off a challenge by Mike VanHouten to win the Mini-Mod feature.

Mike Meyerhofer charged out front of the super model feature, with Vincent Merry and Kent Burkoth in hot pursuit. On lap three Burkoth got under Meyerhofer and the lead changed. On lap eight things got wild, as Merry spun,collecting Jeff Holmgren Jr. and it was the first Yellow Book USA caution period. Two more caution period   came after that before ten laps were finally completed. Each start the leader remained in firm command of the top spot.Behind Burkoth things were very tight in a side by side fight for second.

Somehow Eddie May grabbed second on lap eighteen.For the next fifteen laps it was worth the price of admission as Burkoth,May,now Landry Potter and Jamie Wallace put on a show for the top positions. May secured the lead on lap thirty five and went on to win the race. Burkoth took over the point lead with his second place run, Landry Potter was third,
Wallace fourth and Fran Prestay fifth. A post race inspectation dropped Wallace from the finish and Meyerhofer was now fifth,as everyone moved up.

The sportsman main saw Erik Pierce move off the pole and never look back, the race went non stop. Kenny Joosten nearly over took the leader with twelve laps to go, but contact was made in the racing incident that could have put both drivers out of the event. Joosten recovered for second, as he came across the line along side Pierce. Adam Berge was third, John Jassen foiurth and fast timer Kenny Smart was fifth.

Mike VanHouten led the first half of the race, before Curt Thomazin moved in front to win the contest. VanHouten was second, withGlen Vernezze third, Jerry Giuliano was fourth and Bill Trusky fifth.

This Friday night family fun night entertainment continues with time trials At 6pm. racing at 7:30.
