Records Were Broken at LGR!

October 2, 2004; Lake Geneva, WI. - Despite the cold temperatures on Saturday at Lake Geneva Raceway for the O’Doul’s fall classic, five of the one lap qualifying records were broken during the afternoon. In the super late models, Beach Park, Illinois driver Erik Darnell became the second driver to ever get into a 15 second lap, as the young third generation speedster turned a 15.917 seconds on the one third mile paved oval. Earlier Jamie Wallace of Pell Lake, the 2003 raceway champion turned a 15.946, to become the first driver to move that fast.

In the Burlington Glass and Muffler Masters street stocks, Mike Gunderson out of Wind Lake turned in a time of 18.836 seconds. In the pure stock 4 cylinder cars,2000 raceway champion Bob Koch of McHenry,IL. turned a 20.392 seconds. In the traveling series,the Yellow Page USA mid Americans class, Random Lake driver Josh Bauer broke the nearly one and one half year old time,as he turned a 16.889 seconds lap and 17 year old Kyle Quella of  Appleton turned a time of 19.175 seconds,in the Wisconsin Mini sport trucks.Nearly  220 race cars entered the two day program.

In the feature action later that evening,even with temperatures in the mid 30’s. The sparse crowd witnessed a great show, as Jason VanHandle won the 20 lap Wisconsin mini sport trucks feature, nipping Scott Baker at the line for the exciting race finish. Third place went to Andy Wilquet, fourth to Chris Lowenhasen, fifth to Jeff VanHandle and sixth to Mark Ziegelbauer in the non stop race.

The clash of champions race brought Landry Potter into the winners circle for the super late models and Sonny Schoffen for the limited late models to top off the evening.
