Michael Cooter and Kyle LaPier get tangled in Bandelero action.

Merry took fast time, won the dash and the 12 lap feature, which gave him his 4th. sport truck title. Landry Potter of Lake Geneva, was in his brand new Jim Olson Collision centers super late model and ran away with the 35 lap feature. John Janssen of Burlington, made it four in a row and five for the season, after winning the McHenry Limousine 25 lap feature race and Michael Bilderback of South Beloit,IL. came to the track and had engine problems, timing fourteenth in the field of fifteen Bandana Bandito bandolero cars. Then dropped out of his heat but after lots of work, managed to win the 15 lap feature. After the event Michael told the crowd ”that a big thank you must go out to the LaPier family for letting him use an engine and his Grandfather for changing it just in time for the feature”.

The sportsman main event started off with Adam Berge using his outside pole starting spot to grab the lead at the drop of the green. Rookie Jack Clark scooted under the leader and the war was on.Gary Norton picked off two cars and dove to the inside of Berge and the lead changed on lap three. Clark got out of wack loosing two spots in the field, two laps later. Denny Norton Jr. in a rare appearance moved into second on lap seven, in the Fred Boal prepared mount. Right on his bumper was Jeremy Bloomberg , who entered lap ten taking over second after quite the battle. Norton wasn’t going be intimated as streaked along side the newly crowned champion. Lap thirteen Norton was second, then the leader the next lap, but Gary Norton still wanted his top spot back.

Right behind this cluster, quick qualifier James Swan, Kenny Joosten and Erik Pierce were trying to advance. On lap nineteen Bloomberg tried the inside of the leader and before the lap was over there would be a fourth different leader. Somehow Dave Thomas got past Swan, Joosten and Gary Norton on lap twenty eight, as things were heating up near the top, just as the first Yellow Book USA caution appearance came before another lap was completed. This tightened up the field with Bloomberg in strict command of the lead and despite another caution as Bobby Giers and Jamie Dorsey got together, it was clearly Jeremy’s show. Pierce was second nipping Norton with just two laps to go. Thomas held back Joosten challenges to claim fourth and Ken Smart was sixth for a very close race finish.

The super late model feature was only one lap old when Terry Patnode lost power causing a melee that left Jacob Humphrey nose first into the wall. Back under green visiting NASCAR touring series driver Jeff Way jumped in front one more time with
Kent Burkoth back after a few weeks off in second. Landry Potter who started third row inside moved into second on lap four, with Eddie May now fourth. By lap ten, Potter was along Way, then after a see/saw race at the top, four laps later there would be a new leader.

The field would remain very tight for the final laps, as the race for second and back was exciting.Potter won by a comfortable margin, with Way and May in a near dead heat for second and third respectively. Burkoth was fourth with Jason Hicks and Randy Rodgers completing the top six.Rodgers who took over the points lead last week by five points gained ten more on Hicks. Next Saturday night the championship feature will determine the 2004 champion.

Dave Edwards shot in front of the super stock feature with Jerry Cowan in the vacationing Jack Rubach’s car second, with Mike Bell running third retiring to the pits after only one lap in. Scott Norton moved into third, as Daryl Traber and John Janssen.

On lap seven Cowan crept in front, one lap later Janssen out ran the new leader and the lead changed one more time. Shane Sapp moved into second one lap later and Bob Moeller followed him. The non stop race was great as Janssen easily won the
race. The race for other positions were very close to call, with Moeller taking second, Sapp was third, Adam Mass, Adam Regnier and Cowan rounded out the top six.

The bandolero feature brought a season high fifteen race cars to the line as Michael Cooter out ran the field to the corner, with fast timer Kyle LaPier, Michael Bilderback rookie Kyle Palma and Dwight Dunlap in a tight group. Visiting Kyle Tillman spun and lost power, stalling in turn four. The field was fast approaching as Cooter and LaPier went high around the vehicle Bilderback went low. Cooter charged in the turn and went too high causing his mount to hit the protection barrels along the
wall, as LaPier followed his mount hit Cooter’s with body pieces flying everywhere.

When the dust settled both drivers night was over and there was some extensive damage to both cars. LaPier received bumps and bruises and Cooter bumps to his leg. Bilderback who was running third became the new leader on the restart and was chased by Palma the rest of the race, Dunlap was third and closing when time ran out. Bobby
Yonkee, Colton Clevenger and Kyle Jusits were next across the line.

This coming Saturday night September 25th.marks the season championships for the super late models, super stocks and millennium late models. The legends and the bandoleros will also race, there championships will be Friday October 1st.Time trials begin at 5:45 pm races start at 7pm.
