"Doctor Tooth" Clean Sweeps Mini-Modifieds!
By Natasha Fabian and Dale R. Erdmann

June 26, 2004; Lake Geneva, WI. -It was a perfect night for stock car racing at Lake Geneva Raceway, Saturday night. Eddie May of Crystal Lake, Illinois did something that is very rare in super late model racing how a days. The veteran driver took a clean sweep of the Jim Olson collision centers sponsored “No Bull series”, by taking fast time, winning the dash and winning the 75 lap feature. May took home nearly $1100 for his efforts.

"Dr. Tooth", Ken Johnson swept the Mini-Modified class this evening.

Ken “Dr.Tooth” Johnson from Park Ridge,IL. did the same feat in the Lusia’s pizzeria mini modifieds. The defending champion took fast time, easily won the dash and ran away with the 15 lap feature Jack Rubach of Burlington won the non stop McHenry limousine super stock feature for 25 laps and Bill Neering one of the regular MSCS series drivers made a rare appearance on an off night, as the Cedar Lake,IN. won his first 25 lap feature in the Performance unlimited sportsman division, that also went non stop.

Vincent Merry drove in front of the super late model field with Jacob Humphrey,  Joe Fischer,  Russ Blakeley, Jeff Holmgren Jr.and Brandon Hill in a cluster. Lap four Humphrey moved in front and one lap later Dave Thomas retired to the pits with problems. Fischer and Blakeley traded second until first nighter Jesse Wilcox spun in turn three bringing out the Yellow book USA caution period. When the green reappeared Humphrey stayed in front, with Fischer regaining second, Blakeley was third with Randy Rodgers now fourth and Jerry Cowan fifth right along him.

Visiting Chad Barker spun in turn four, after contact with Rick Corso and another slowdown came on lap twenty three, just when the leader had built up a five car advantage. Humphrey charged back in front as the next green came out. Lap thirty six Rodgers made his move and the lead changed. Fischer spun on lap forty in turn two and the race stopped one more time. It was all Rodgers, with Humphrey, Cowan, Fran Prestay, Eddie May and Merry in a close group behind the leader.

On lap fifty one, Landry Potter smashed hard in the wall, but continued down the track and retired onto the infield. Somehow May moved into second on lap fifty seven but he was some distance behind the leader. From laps sixty eight on, May would try to get in inside the leader to no avail. Then May went outside and that didn’t work either.

A few times as they raced side by side contact was made and May backed off. Then with four laps to go May inched in front, only to lose out before the lap was over. The white   appeared and May knew this was it and the lead changed. The final lap May stood the test of time, winning his fourth feature of the year, Rodgers hung on to second, with Cowan right along of him, Humphrey was fourth, as Prestay and Jason Hicks completed the top six in a great race.

The super stock feature was another close contest as Shane Zapp moved in front at the off set of the event. Scott Norton, Ken Eisbrenner, Darryl Traber and Tom Roney all trying to be second. Bob Moeller dropped out running tenth on lap three. Fast qualifier Norman Paulsen who took the Powersource challenge starting dead last, was up to eleventh and on his way to the bonus, but then dropped out for unknown reasons on lap ten

On lap sixteen the only change came went Eisbrenner slowed quickly. This gave Traber the break he was looking for, but now Jack Rubach was right behind him. Next was Adam Mass and Mike Gunderson who were all over Rubach. Unbelievably with the white flag out Rubach tried to move past Zapp who had everything his own way since the start. It took one more lap coming off two Rubach crept ahead, but Zapp wasn’t giving up yet. But as these two came into three in a dead heat, the crowd was on the edge of there seats to see who would dart across the line in first.

Rubach grabbed the front spot for the win, with Zapp, holding off Gunderson last weeks feature winner. Norton was fourth Traber fifth and Adam Regnier next.

The sportsman feature saw Adam Berge moved in front with Lee Gibbs and Russ Blakeley next. By lap four Erik Pierce was second, with Bill Neering next. On lap seven the traffic jam at the top had four race cars all leading the lap from time to time. Neering won the fight and the lead changed on lap nine. Next was Blakeley, Pierce and Goerge Schultz, a former off road racer was back at his home track, but this time on pavement, Berge was next.

With ten laps to go,Schultz moved into second, but could he caught the leader? It went on to be an excellent feature that Neering easily won over Schultz, point leader Jeremy Bloomberg who came on strong, Blakeley was fourth, with Pierce and Kenny Joosten sixth.

This Saturday night Speedway Auto Mall located in Loves Park,IL. presents the holiday special. The Legends cars will have a regional qualifier race with  drivers from around the Midwest expected.

The super late models, super stocks and sportsman will also be here.Doug Rose in his green mamba jet dragster will perform with his incredible car melt downs.
