Great Night for Friday Night LGR Group!

February 1, 2003; Lake Geneva, WI. The Lake Geneva Raceway awards banquet for the Friday night weekly show brought out nearly 250 people to honor the championships of this second year program.

The popular growing division of the Herb’s mini modifieds were up first Ken Johnson of Paddock Lake won his third championship in a row. Johnson a former IMCA modified champion didn’t have a easy time of it taking the point lead on the second last night of the season.T hen finishing one position ahead to win the title on the last night. Second place went
to Jeff Schultz a second generation driver from Silver Lake.Bill Trusky was third another Silver Lake runner. Hermie Schultz a founder of this division and the eldest member of his family was just a few point out in fourth for another driver from Silver Lake. Mike VanHouten out of Cary ,Illinois was fifth with co rookies of the year Rick Lambert and Chris Marinello next followed by Joe Miller second generation driver Lee Morrison and his father Roy completing the top ten.

The Perfection Auto Body Legend cars had lots of problems plaguing their nights but action wasn’t one of them. Curt Gnatzig who came down from Hartland was always right there and won his first title on the last night of racing for an exciting season. Clayton Kruse of Burlington was second with Rob Duffek of Burlington, Lyle Kuklinski of New
Berlin, and Herman Greinig of Addison,IL. next. Larry Will, Brian Cataldi, Garrett Will, Brad Popp and Steve Licht rounded out the top ten.

The S&P Motorsports Millennium late models grew this season and now that Illiana will be including them in their weekly schedule the division will see the numbers that will product a big field. The second champion of this group was Tommy Nevoso of Trevor who walked away with the $1000 for winning the crown. Paul Dygon of Racine was second
with Kenny Joosten of Wonder Lake,IL. third. Former BMRA racer Boyd Calvert of Eagle fourth the divisions only female competitor Carrie Dygon fifth with Joshua Shaw fromer sportsman driver Mark Hartline and Shawn Conelly were next both drivers used the same ride every other week youngster Jacob Humphrey and new comer Mike Carpenter tenth.

The Anchor Towing Basic International cars saw over 150 here this season and 75 in one night.Greg Sheldon of Crystal Lake,IL. winning the track championship on the final lap of the final night of racing for his first championship of his career.Nick Kalteis of Lake Villa,IL.  was second Jeff Bremer of Round lake,IL. third Randy Schneider of nearby Burlington fourth former champion Bob Koch of McHenry,IL.fifth followed by Dave Cheney Jr. Tony Burrafato
Rob Hunt Randy DeGrave and John DaDuke Edwards.

The sport trucks a club division that raced most nights under their own banner crowned their champion for the second year in a row Vincent Merry of Wadsworth,IL. won the title.

Special thanks went to Bill Damron owner of Herb’s used cycle parts in Antioch,IL. S&P Motorsports of Burlington Perfection Auto Body of Burlington and Anchor Towing of McHenry IL.for their support of the divisions. Also Dave Rex Jr. the raceway starter for the thankless  Job he does so well. The staff received a big thank you for the job they do.

Drivers who participated in 75 % of their shows run received a point fund check with nearly $5600 going to the drivers.

The 2003 season for the weekly Friday night show will be May 16th. and run through September 5th. for a new 14 week schedule.The BIC cars and sport trucks will join the super late models and super stocks on the Saturday night season opener April 5th.
