Johnson Clean Sweep's Herb's Mini-Mods, Record Car
Count at Lake Geneva Raceway!

Four time champion Ken Johnson of Paddock Lake showed every in the house
why he is number one in the Herb’s mini modified division. As Johnson broke the track
qualifying record for a one lap mark with a time of 17.422 seconds on the one third mile,
also winning the dash and won the 15 lap feature .The last time Johnson was able to pull
off this feat was August 23rd. of 2002.
Steve Maciosek of Burlington one of the owners of the divisions sponsor,
S&P motorsports won his first career feature in the millennium late models 20 lap
contest. Maciosek is a former Lions Club driver who raced out of the Tichigan Club group.
Point leader Rob Hunt of McHenry,Illinois won the 15 lap Anchor Towing Basic International
feature. Defending champion Vincent Merry now out of Northbrook,IL. won the Midwest
sport truck feature.Chris Carlson of Cary,IL. The 2000 Champion won the exciting 20
lap feature for the Rascal Outlaw cars after taking fast time. Steve Licht of Burlington
won his first career feature in the legend cars 15 lap feature. 13 year old Michael
Bilderback of South Beloit,IL.a second generation driver easily the Banderlaro 8 lap
feature and Tim Tussaint of McHenry,IL. won the 15 lap Central states regional super mini
cups feature race, after taking fast time and second in the dash.
The mini modified feature started with rookie Curt Thomazin out
front. Another rookie Josh Warner spun but the race continued without a caution. Two laps
later Mike VanHouten crept in front after a brief battle with the former leader. Quickly
Ken Johnson moved into second with Hermie Schultz right on his tail. Action behind the
front runner was even closer at the middle as a lapped car would fall into play before the
end of lap six. Bill Trusky grabbed fourth and closed in on the cluster in front of
him.Rookie Jesse Johnson joined the fray up front just as Ken Johnson moved along side
VanHouten.
Trusky retired to the pits with problems on lap ten just as Ken Johnson secured the top
spot before the caution came out. On the restart Chris Marinello ended up on the infield
with problems but now Schultz was knocking on Ken Johnson’s door. Johnson held on for
the win with Schultz along side. VanHouten was third, with Jesse Johnson fourth, 1993
champion Glen Vernezze was fifth and Thomazin hung onto sixth in this close event.
The millennium late model feature got off to a rocky start as Joshua Shaw spun onto the
infield causing a complete estart. Mike Kruschke moved in front when the green reappeared
with Steve Maciosek and Kenny Joosten not giving an inch. The fight at the top produced a
great race as Maciosek smoothly climbed to the top on lap seven.
Mike Carpenter Jr.moved into third on the same lap with Kruschke and Joosten between him.
One slip and there would have been a disaster but everyone played nice and on lap ten
Brian Ulrich, Jeff Goodwin and Shawn Conley joined their quest for the top spot. On lap
eleven something happened as Carpenter and Kruschke tangled bringing this intense pace to
a halt.
On the restart Joosten got the break he needed but Maciosek was up for the call and with
five laps to go Conely wanted a piece of the action but again the leader wasn’t going
to be intimdated. The crowd went wild as Conley got along side the leader from time to
time but there was no denying the leader. With three laps to go Conley drew up on the
leader and even inched ahead briefly before climbing the wall and never losing a position.
Maciosek came across the line first with Conley at his side. Joosten was third, Jeff
Goodwin claimed fourth after nipping Urlich at the wire and Mark Hartline was sixth in
another great race.
The most serious incident of the BIC feature happened on lap three when Rod Brossert spun
and was then hit head on by Jason Tibbs. Both drivers were shaken but not injured.Then on
lap eight Tony Riek rolled hard two times but was not injured.
Rob Hunt started on the pole and never lost his edge winning his second feature of the
season. Bob Koch was second, with Steve Richter,Chris Koleno and Scott Norton completing
the top six.
This coming Friday night will be the second week of the family fun action as WLKG radio
and the Regional News sponsors the program with special promotions.
The five regular divisions will be here as time trials begin at 6:15pm and the first race
at 7:30pm.
