Randy Rodgers Wins LGR SLM Main, Summers and Merry Double Winners! By Dale R. Erdmann

July 19, 2003; Lake Geneva, WI. - It was R.A.Adams Enterprises of McHnery, Illinois and Wisconsin Fans for Auto Racing night at Lake Geneva Raceway Saturday night. With an overflow crowd in the grandstand to witness the final event of the evening, the trailer race, the crowd got a bonus when saw some excellent stock car racing too. Randy Rodgers of Lake Geneva took home the $1000 for the win of the 35 lap Budweiser Super late model feature.

Rob Summers the defending champion in the McHenry Limousine super stocks had a great night by winning the dash and the 25 lap feature. Vincent Merry of Wadsworth,IL. did the same in the Midwest sport trucks and Tim Paisley of Union Grove won the Grand National Vintage car feature, in the Junior Johnson look alike 1964 Ford Galaxie. It was the groups first appearance of the year.

Rick Corso jumped out to a four car length lead at the drop of the double green flag with Mark Hartline, Joe Fischer and Billy Skinner Jr. in hot pursuit. Second place changed hands numerous times during the first ten laps with Fischer then Skinner taking control of the runner up spot. Jerry Freeman moved into third on lap eleven with a very tight field back to thirteenth.

On lap fourteen Shane Bishop and Jason Hicks tangled bringing out the first slow- down of the race. Corso’s big lead was gone but on the restart Skinner couldn’t stay with the leader after a few laps and the race for second started again. Freeman got around Skinner on eighteen with Randy Rodgers now fourth. On lap twenty six Freeman’s hopes of a challenge were over as a control arm broke bringing out another caution.

This time Corso couldn’t run away and hide as Rodgers stayed right with the leader until lap twenty eight when he inched ahead, taking the win seven laps later. Corso was able to take second with Skinner, Jerry Straube, Jerry Cowan and Matt Kocourek completing the top six.

The super stock feature saw Greg Beebe lead the first lap before Tom Fay took over the top spot.Quickly Mike Bell, Tom Roney, rookie Shane Sapp and Dave Edwards got around Beebe. A spin by Chris McKay brought out the first caution on lap six. Fay walked ahead of the pack on the restart but Roney wanted the lead as these two diced for that top position. On lap eight Roney was officially the leader with Fay and last weeks feature winner Mike Gunderson next.

Bell lost an oil line on lap thirteen dumping fuild on the surface, bringing out the caution just after Gunderson took over second.Roney led the next lap before Dan Huber took over for the next three, then the final caution was thrown for a spin by Adam Regnier. Huber stayed in front on the next restart until lap twenty one when Rob Summers caught him for the win four laps later. Sonny Schoffen who took the Dunne Bonus challenge after taking fast time grabbed third. Gunderson was fourth, Bob Moeller fifth and Roney sixth.

Saturday night July 26th. the Snap On tool dealers will sponsor the evening as the sportsman return along with the super late models,super stocks and a big wheels race for the kids. If your children elects to use a bike parents are asked that they wear proper safety gear. Time trials begin at 5:45 and the first race at 7pm. This Monday July 21st.

District 27-A Lions clubs presents the firecracker special. Time trials are at 6pm. Racing at 7 .This is the 34th. season the clubs have participated in raising nearly 2 million dollars for services. Tickets will be sold at the gate.
