The 7th. annual Bud Light small car world championships were rained out two Fridays ago This show has now been added to the big show, which means its a big, big show with up to 150 cars expected. The reason its a big deal is that there are three championships on the line. In error last week and even in the early release this week, officials thought that only two titles were close. Doctor ToothKen Johnson from Paddock Lake had a great run last Saturday at Rockford. But here at his home track its the closest championship battle since 2001 when it then went down to the wire. Mike VanHouten is trying to win his first title. VanHouten started racing back in 1997 and the past two months its been a Van Houten show. The Herbs mini modifieds have the largest field of rookies as this eleven year old group goes out of their way to promote their class and the weekly show they raced on Fridays for the past eleven weeks. They were to race on Saturday night September 13th. but that program was rained out. In the Perfection Auto Body sponsored legend cars Burlingtons Steve Licht holds a slim 25 point lead over defending champion Curt Gnatzig. The battle has been all season as both drivers have held the top spot from time to time. This division has gained a following, but had a few nights with a small field. These nights the group still had some close finishes even with a short field. The top five will be settled Saturday night. A class that hasnt been seen here since 1998 are the INEX bandoleros. It was stated that Michael Bilderback from South Beloit, Illinois was already crowned the champion. Then it was discovered this Thursday that the points were not counted on the weekend Bilderback was down in Florida competing against the nations best. These points are now part of the standings and the 11 year old youngster is in a tight fight for the top spot with 14 year old Michael Cooter of Loves Park.IL. Bilderback has 2695 points and Cooter has 2565, Third place Brian Heberlin holds a comfortable margin over Dave Cooter Sr. whos fourth, but just behind him is 8 year old Bobby Yonkee just 25 points out of that next position. The McHenry Limousine super stocks and the Anchor Towing BIC cars still have their points count too. The American short trackers/International cars are excepted to give the Midwest sport trucks a run for their money. The track qualifying record could again be broken.Skip Martin of McHenry,IL. who runs a LaSalle is one of the super late models that compete. Time trials begin at 5:45 pm. First race at 7 pm.
