Wallace, Mass and Humphrey Win LGR Championship Races, Wallace, Schoffen and Humphrey Win Titles! By Dale R. Erdmann

September 20, 2003; Lake Geneva, WI. - It was season championship races at Lake Geneva Raceway Saturday night.Guests included the Walworth County Sheriff Deptment and Burlington Farmers Cooperative.Raceway champions include Jamie Wallace of Pell Lake who has now won two crowns. Wallace also ran away with the 50 lap feature for the Budweiser super late models and said after the event,”thanks to all the fans who came out night and have given him support all season”.

Jamie Wallace (#87) took top honors in the 50-lap super late model feature Saturday at Lake Geneva Raceway. Wallace also nailed down the super late model track championship in the process. Junior fan club member Tanya Roney celebrated with Wallace after the win. 16-year-old Jacob Humphrey (#63) won the Millennium late model main event Saturday at LGR. In the process Humphrey also won the Millennium class track championship. He was joined in victory lane by his sister Taylor.

Winning his first S&P motorsports millennium championship,16 year old Jacob Humphrey of Lake Geneva,a junior at nearby Badger High School. Humphrey said he may race a super late model next season.The division who had the tighest battle were the McHenry Limo super stocks. After the qualifying and the dash, just 15 points separated Sonny Schoffen of Crystal Lake, Illinois and defending champion Rob Summers. The feature went to Adam Mass of Woodstock, IL. who won his first career feature as Schoffen finished second and Summers third. This gave Schoffen an edge of twenty five points over Summers in the 35 lap event and his first championship.

Eddie May slipped in front of the super late model field with Mark Hartline, Shane Bishop and Jason Hicks in hot pusuit. Things got real ugly on lap ten. First Rick Corso and Billy Baumeister tangled. That was just the beginning then before another lap could be recorded Bob Maynor and Denny Hiffman tangled with Danny Heying stopping to avoid. After getting lined up again Heying was also sent to the back.

Then the green came out one more time, but that was short lived as now Hicks made contact with Bishop, as Joe Fischer went around in turn four during the melee. Finally under way with May still leading the event. Bishop came under the leader. Five laps later the caution slowdown came when  Hicks and Jerry Cowan got together. Chuck Rein and Matt Kocourek went to the pits on that caution and never returned when the green came out.

May charged back in front with Bishop, Larry Loss and Jamie Wallace very close. The lead changed on lap twenty seven, as Wallace took over and never looked back winning the race by a comfortable margin. May was second, Bishop third, Jerry Freeman fourth, a recovered Jerry Cowan and Wayne Freimund sixth.

The non stop super stock feature brought Dave Edwards in front with Tom Fay, Nick Nelson, Adam Regnier and Adam Mass all over the leader.

By lap six Mass made his way forward and there was a new leader before that lap ended. It took another twelve laps for the leader to shake Edwards and Fay who never let up. Regnier crept into second on lap twenty but Dan Huber quickly slipped under him and tried to work his way in on the leader.

The challenge never took place as Mass drove an excellent race using the first lapped car to his advantage. Huber dropped out before the checkered for some unknown reason with Sonny Schoffen taking second. Rob Summers was third, Regnier fourth, Bob Moeller fifth and Brad Norgard sixth.

The millennium late model championship race saw rookie Earl Counter who took fast time move out front after the cars were lined up by average points. The group stayed close together with Shawn Conley, rookie Michael Kruschke and Brian Ulrich next.

Counter had his way until lap ten as Ulrich slipped under the leader. It took one more lap before the lead changed but Jacob Humphrey didn’t let the new leader out of his sight after a brief battle with Counter. This set up a great run as Humphrey took his time not making any mistake on his way to the front.

Ulrich had problems holding his car in a lane getting warnings numerous times. On lap seventeen Humphrey moved in front then going on to win the non-stop race over Ulrich, Conley, Counter, Kruschke, Paul Dygon and Mark Hartline who had double duty tonight. Ulrich was dropped to last due to the ill handling car .Mike Lange was moved up to sixth. and everyone in front of him was moved up. The Saturday night fans got to see some good racing from this Friday night group.

This coming Friday night Bud Light presents the 7th. annual small car world Championship races take place.10 divisions of race cars will be here. Time trials Begin at 6 pm. racing at 7:30. If you purchase a weekend pass for the Friday through Sunday programs. Friday is free of charge for adult spectators. Kids Under 8 are free too.

On Saturday and Sunday the O’Doul’s Fall Classic will take place. Time trials Saturday are at 2 pm. racing at 6pm. The afternoon of features Sunday begin at 1 pm.
