Wallace Ends Dry Spell With Super Late Victory at LGR!
By Dale Erdmann

April 26, 2003; Lake Geneva, WI. - The last time Jamie Wallace of nearby Pell Lake won a super late model feature was on August 4th. 2001 with a full moon above. That night numerous caution flags plagued the main event.Take away the full moon and it was 2001 all over again.Wallace survived an event that took for ever to get the first 10 laps in as the 1992 champion won the Budweiser super late model 35 lap feature.

The McHenry Limousine super stocks feature runs many times non stop, well not tonight as the 25 lap feature took over one half hour to run with Adam Regnier of Twin Lakes leading all but four laps in an exciting last lap win. The Performance Unlimited sportsman feature for 30 laps went to second generation and first night driver Jeremy Miller of Rockton, Illinois fresh from his win at Rockford April 14th. in a Midwest sportsman series event. Chad Ross of Kenosha won his second Midwest sport truck 12 lap feature.

Chad Ross (#3) passed Dale Gustum (#28) en-route to winning the truck feature at LGR Saturday.

Jerry Cowan moved out front of the super late model feature with Vincent Merry and Jerry Freeman battling for second.Coming off turn two Rick Corso and Danny Mecum made contact before collecting Jim Olson who ended up on the protection wall as the caution appeared. Two laps later the leader got loose collecting Freeman as the caution came out. Before it ended a multi car pile up ensued. Cowan, Merry and Bob Hansberry received the most damage as their night was over but everyone escaped injury.

Freeman had to go to the rear because of being at  a the right place at the wrong time. This gave Jeff Storm the lead with Jamie Wallace now second on the restart. Wallace worked on the leader two laps before taking over the top spot on lap eleven. Shane Bishop and Storm had an intense work out until lap twenty five before fast time qualifier Erik Darnell smoothly moved by and set his sights on Wallace who was just a few lengths ahead with ten laps to go.

Darnell got along side Wallace twice before the final lap was recorded. But it was a sure win for Wallace as Darnell settled for second with Storm holding Billy Skinner Jr. a recovering Freeman and Joe Fischer back for a close finish. A post race inspection dropped Storm from feature for some unknown reason as Bishop moved up to sixth.

In the super stock feature Adam Regnier charged out front with Tom Roney, Norm Paulsen, Adam Mass and Ken Eisbrenner all over the leader. On lap three Roney inched ahead of the pack with Paulsen creeping up to second one lap later. Fast timer Sonny Schoffen blew something all over turn one and out came the first of three cautions in this event. On the restart just one lap was completed when Eisbrenner spun collecting Bob Moeller as the caution came out again for that incident.

The leader was sent to the pits with a transmission leak and Regnier again became the leader when the green reappeared.
Mass wasn’t going to settle for second moving along side the leader on lap nine. Then Eggebrecht pulled off a slick move and nearly took over the lead. Mass was back to third with Paulsen and Craig Mertes right there too. Five laps later Rob Summers joined the fray just before semi winner Mike Gunderson and runner up of that event Mike Bell tangled.

On the restart Regnier walked his fellow drivers with Mass getting past Eggebrecht for one lap with Summers and now Dan Huber right behind this cluster. Mass got wide with Summers now third with just five laps to go. This was going to be a close one as Egggebrecht inched ahead on lap twenty two. Then on lap twenty four Regnier was just in front as these two diced for the win of this see/saw battle. Coming off turn four it looked like Eggebrecht had the momentum to pull off the victory but coming across the line Regnier won by just a few steps as the crowd came to their feet. Summers held onto third with Huber a recovering Moeller and Paulsen next.

Dave Thomas grabbed the lead at the drop of the first green with Kenny Joosten, Rick Corso and Eric Pierce right on his tail. The first caution came three laps later after James Swan spun. With the next green out Corso moved in front with Thomas and Jeremy Miller next.

For Miller’s first ever appearance he looked like a regular as he and Thomas dueled for second. Miller moved past Thomas on lap six with Corso afew feet ahead as Joosten had third before the lap would end. Bobby Hacker dropped Thomas another position on lap nine as it got tight up front. The final caution came on lap ten as Todd Stoner spun.Corso stayed in front with Miller breathing down his tail pipe two laps later. Six laps later there was new leader as Miller moved away from the field. For the next fourteen laps everything remained the same. Miller easily won the event in fine style Corso held back Joosten, Hacker, Jeremy Bloomberg and a recovered Swan.

Next Saturday night Barry’s Bar/no grill of Genoa City presents the first leg of the no bull series for the super late model race cars. A big field of visitors is expected.he first ever Midwest sportsman series will also be here with some 35 cars expected for this event. There will be no increase in admission prices.
