Clean Sweep LGR Friday Show!

August 8, 2003; Lake Geneva, WI. - It was a perfect night for racing and the weekly family fun night Friday events were close and exciting. In the Herb’s mini modified division a few weeks ago the group went to a new tire. It was a mixed bag for many drivers, but for Mike VanHouten of Cary, Illinois it was a dream come true. VanHouten took a clean sweep for the second week in a row, by taking fast time, winning the dash and the 15 lap feature.

11 year old Michael Bilderback of South Beloit,IL.got back from his successful southern tour two weeks ago and continues to be the force behind the Bandolero cars. Bilderback took fast time, won the heat and finished a comfortable margin in front to win the feature race.

Mike VanHouten (#24) scored a second clean sweep in a row in the mini-modifieds
Friday at LGR. He was joined by representative of the Woodstock Jaycees.

Rob Hunt of McHenry,IL. the current Anchor Towing point leader did something that doesn’t happen a lot in this division. Hunt took fast time,won the dash and won the unusual road course feature race for 15 laps. Defending Midwest sport truck champion Vincent Merry of Wadsworth,IL.won the heat and ran away with the 15 lap feature. The visiting Quality Builders Central States super mini cups went right down to the wire as Ken Jones of Lomard, IL. won the 15 lap feature by just a few inches for a great run for the defending champion and Mike Lange of Milwaukee won his second S&P motorsports millennium late model 20 lap feature.

Glen Vernezze shot out front of the mini modified feature with Bill Trusky, Curt Thomazin and Tim Hansen all over the front runner. There was a lot of shuffling in the field as Mike VanHouten climbed through the pack and at the half way point there was a new leader.

Wilmot announcer and Let’s go racing radio show host Mike Babicz in his first race in this division got lapped on the tenth go round as VanHouten cruised to a eventual win. Thomazin was second, with Vernezze hot on his heels in third. Phil Schultz was fourth with Ken Johnson nipping Trusky for fifth in the non stop contest.

Paul Dygon charged out front of the millennium late model feature with Monty Coffman putting on the pressure in second. Midway, Brian Ulrich managed to move into second and slipped along side the leader. Racing side by side until lap thirteen Ulrich then inched ahead and continued to lead until there was three laps to go.

At that time Ulrich went around and Dygon was again the leader. With the white flag displayed Mike Lang crept along side the leader. When the checkered came out Lange was the winner, with Dygon along side for second. Jacob Humphrey the current point leader and quick qualifier was third, Mark Hartline, Coffman and Shawn Conley in his first race since the accident a few weeks ago, finished sixth for a race that had the crowd on their feet.

Next Friday’s show will mark the first of five shows in four days. All of the weekly divisions will be here with time trials at 6pm. first race at 7:30pm. On the other end of the grounds weekly moto cross racing on the stadium dirt course is at 8 pm.
