Jacoby Humphrey Breaks His Own Record Again On His Way to Another Feature Win! By Dale R. Erdmann

July 25, 2003; Lake Geneva, WI. - Quality Builders of Richmond,Illinois sponsored the Friday night race program at Lake Geneva Raceway.Popular 16 year old race driver, Jacob Humphrey of Lake Geneva, had a great evening as the point leader of the S&P Motorsports millennium late models, broke his one week old one lap qualifying record with a time 16.959 seconds and won the 20 lap feature race.

Michael Cooter of Loves Park,IL. took fast time, won the heat and the 10 lap feature in the bandolero cars for his first clean sweep of the season. Randy Schneider of Burlington won the 20 lap Anchor Towing Basic International cars feature even after he took second in the event, the actual winner refused the claim and was disqualified and give two weeks off. Tom Ross of North Brook,IL. won the Midwest sport truck 15 lap feature and point leader Steve Licht from Burlington won the 20 lap Perfection auto body legends feature with many visiting drivers.

Steve Licht (8) nips Curt Gnatzig (6) for the win in the legends feature Friday night at LGR. Tom Ross (1) outran Vincent Merry (55) to collect top money in the sport truck feature Friday night at Geneva.

Herman Greinig charged in front of the legends feature with Nick Shutkas, Garrett Will and Steve Licht hot on his tail.Cars diced for positions as Licht and then Curt Gnatzig moved to the front of the field. Laps six and seven were Licht’s to hold, but then Gnatzig inched in front on lap nine.It was then a see/saw battle for the next five laps before quick qualifier Josh Schoenick spun bringing out the only caution of the event. On the restart Licht held on to the top spot until the
checkered with Gnatzig a close second and even at times the leader but not at the wire. Eric Lokemoen was third, Greinig fourth,Garrett Will fifth and Larry Will sixth.

The millennium late model feature looked like a parade as Mark Hartline drove in front of the field. Mike Lange was second for just one lap before Monty Coffman slipped under him on lap three. Somehow Brian Ulrich got a break and managed to move into second on lap six and one lap later the lead. The field was still extremely tight. Ulrich tried to move topside but Hartline was still there as there was contact made. Both drivers would not give an inch as there was contact numerous times the next lap.

Then coming out of turn two heavy contact was made with Ulrich spinning around. The first and only caution came out as the fallen leader drove away. Ulrich was sent to the back with Hartline still up front on the restart. But just one lap later Jacob Humphrey was along side the leader and then in front. Hartline crept back in front one lap later, but this lasted just one lap as Humphrey grabbed the top spot again. Sonny Schoffen team driver of the Jeff Goodwin mount was now putting pressure on Hartline. Humphrey eventually won the race with Schoffen holding back the a recovering Lange who finished third. Ulrich was next with Hartline and Coffman under a blanket for the next positions.

Randy Schneider led nine of the counter clock wise laps run the big track after Josh Brisbois the first lap leader. Then the caution appeared on lap ten with the cars checked for their positions. On the restart Dan Giannotti the quick qualifier slipped
in front and ran away with the race as Schneider finished second, Matt Bushnell was third, Eric Schoffen nipped Al Klasen for fourth and Marty Butler rounding out the top six. A post race claim was refused by Giannotti and the win went to Schneider, with point leader Rob Hunt climbing to sixth.

This coming Friday night marks the return of the Great Lakes Allison legacy Series with drivers from 5 states. The Herb’s mini modifieds return with the Trucks, Millennium late models, legends and BIC cars all here. There will be no increase in admission prices. Time trials begin at 6pm. racing at 7:30. Weekly racing continues until September 5th.
