Wild Friday Night of Racing at LGR!

July 18, 2003; Lake Geneva, WI. -  The full moon was last weekend, but it looked like it wasFriday night at Lake Geneva Raceway. There were three roll overs, but at least there were no injuries. Feature winners were Michael Bilderback of South Beloit,IL.who took a clean sweep of the Bandolero cars. Lyle Kuklinski of New Berlin had a great Night in the Perfection Auto Body Legend cars by winning the heat and his first feature of the season. Mike VanHouten of Cary,IL. won his first 15 lap non stop feature of the year in the Herb’s mini modifieds. Jacob Humphrey of Lake Geneva broke his old
week old S&P millennium late model qualifying mark with a time of 17.007 seconds of the one third mile paved banked oval.

Todd Booker (#31) zips under Rob Hunt (#75) on his way to victory in the BIC feature Friday at Lake Geneva. Hunt eventually placed fifth.

Humphrey won the dash but was involved in an incident in the feature and only finished tenth. The feature went to Brian Ulrich of Racine his second of the season. Earlier in the dash rookie Michael Kruschke of Muskego was having a great night being his first time in that event after taking fourth in time. But Michael and Shawn Conely of Huntley,IL. got hooked with both going into the turn two wall as the force drove the Kruschke up and rolled over end for end. Kip Novotny of Johnsburg, Illinois won his second 15 lap Rascal Outlaw feature of the season and Todd Booker of Hebron,IL. won his first 15 lap 50/50 feature for the Anchor Towing Basic International Cars. Booker’s car was also claimed after he rolled the dice and a one came up.

Monty Coffman slipped in front of the millennium feature with Mike Lange, Steve Maciosek,ark Hartline and Jeff Goodwin all over the leader lap two Lange crept in front with Maciosek right behind him.he field remained tight but by lap ten Maciosek was able to inch in front of Lange after working on him for five laps.

The next six laps were all Maciosek’s, but on lap seventeen quick timer Jacob Humphrey finally got a break and moved inside the leader.It was quite the show until the white flag came out. Going into turn three there was contact sending the leader around and Humphrey into the lead. The first caution came out and both drivers were regaled to the rear. This set up a green white checkered situation.As the green was displayed Lange out ran everyone to the corner, then leading the white flag lap.

Coming into turn three, Brian Ulrich got under Lange. Coming back at the point of turn four Lange looked like he’d pull off the victory. But coming down the home stretch the crowd was standing as Ulrich won the event. Lange was second with Coffman, Hartline, Ken Joosten and Paul Dygon were next for an exciting finish.

The non stop mini modified feature brought Glen Vernezze in front for the first three laps before Mike VanHouten took over building up a large lead quickly. By lap five Ken Johnson who set fast time and is the current point leader moved into second.

VanHouten had his own way until the first car was lapped with five laps to go.sing this to his advantage the win came with Johnson second, rookie Curt Thomazin was third, with Phil Schultz, Vernezze and Chris Marinello rounding out the top six.

Lyle Kuklinski led all laps of the legend feature but the race for second and then the lead was just great. With two laps to go fast timer Curt Gnatzig was all over the leader,but coming out of turn four Gnatzig only so slightly bobbled and point leader
Steve Licht got by as Kuklinski was just in front to win the thrilling event. Robb Duffek, Herman Greinig and rookie Joe Scala were next.

Viadi Viadimiro led the first ten laps as the cars ran the normal way on the third mile. Then the caution came out and the cars ran the other way on the old track with Todd Booker leading all laps. Rod Brossart was second, Dan Giannotti third,with Randy Schneider fourth and new point leader Rob Hunt fifth in Bic car action.

Quality Builders of Richmond,IL. will sponsor the Friday July 25th. show with the Central States super mini cups back, along with four other divisions. Time trials begin at about 6pm. races at 7:30pm sharp.
