Bilderback Continues His Ways at LGR, Schultz,
Kruse, Schneider, Conley and Ross Double Winners!

Phil Schultz of Silver Lake may have started off a sub driver in his
brother Jeff’s Herb’s mini modified car,but the former champion took second in
time, won the dash and took a last lap run to win the exciting 15 lap feature to serve
notice he was looking at the top of the division this season. Clayton Kruse of Burlington
brought out his number 3 Perfection auto body legends car for the first time this season,
having a great night by winning his heat and the 20 lap feature. Randy Schneider of
Burlington had a good night as the veteran driver won his heat and the 15 lap Anchor
Towing Basic International division feature.
Chad Ross of Kenosha finally had a great night after weeks of
problems.Ross won the dash and the 15 lap feature for the Midwest sport trucks and Shawn
Conley of Huntley, Illinois won his heat and the 25 lap S&P motorsports millennium
late model feature.
Glen Vernezze held the lead just one lap of the mini modified feature before 2002 co
rookie of the year Chris Marinello charged in front of the tight field. Curt Thomazin was
all over Vernezze, with Mike VanHouten and Rick Lambert close behind. By lap five Phil
Schultz joined the top four with the leader putting some pavement between himself and the
next car.
With five laps to go Schultz broke into second with Marinello about a quarter lap ahead.
The first car was lapped one lap later which gave the leader alittle time to gain an
advantage. It looked like it would finish that way, until the white flag came out
and the final car was lapped. This gave Schultz the force he needed and as they crossed
the line he was first. Marinello was along side and his first win of his career would have
to wait for another night.VanHouten grabbed third, with Vernezze, Hermie Schultz and Lee
Morrison in point leader Ken Johnson’s mount for sixth in this thrilling event.
Shawn Conley bolted off the outside pole with rookie Michael Kruschke at
his side. Mark Hartline, Paul Dygon, Brian Ulrich and Mike Lange were in a tight formation
behind him.With five laps to go Kruschke worked his way under the Conley then into the
lead. It looked like the first year driver would pull off a victory as the white flag
flew. But coming off turn two the leader spun,the first and only caution came out which
set up a green white checkered situation.With the green displayed Conley was again the
leader and eventual winner, Hartline took second right along side the leader, with Ulrich,
fast qualifier and point leader Jacob Humphrey fourth,Dygon was fifth and Lange hung onto
sixth in another close contest.
Clayton Kruse moved in front of the legends feature with the first of only two caution
periods. The first came before the first lap ended,as Chris Halgerson and Joe Scala
tangled. The second came on lap eighteen when Dave Cooter Sr. spun. Before the caution
Lyle Kuklinski held nearly over taken the leader, but officials could smell gear end lube
for the second week in a row. They checkered some cars and Kuklinski was the one who had
the leak. Being sent to the pits and only a green, white, checkered to go Kruse held back
point leader Steve Licht for the win. Third place went to Herman Greinig with Robb Duffek,
Scala and Eddie Mecum Jr. rounding out the top six.
A lap two roll by second night driver Nick Kalties stopped the sport truck feature with
Chad Ross out front after Rob Neumiller led the first lap before the caution for the
mishap. Kalties was not injured and the event then went non stop with Ross way ahead of
Vincent Merry the point leader and quick time qualifier.Neumiller took third with Frank
Caravetta fourth, Steven Johnson and Dale Gustum were next.
The BIC feature went non stop as Randy Schneider started on the outside pole and never
looked back for the win. Point leader Viadi Viadimirov took second after starting in the
seventh row working his way forward. Matt Bushnell was third as Scott Norton, Todd Booker
and Rod Brossart completed the top six.
This coming Friday marks the midseason as the Central States super mini cups and the open
wheel Rascal outlaws join the five regular divisions. Time trials begin at 6pm. racing at
7:30 sharp. There will be no increase in admission prices.
