Prestay Winless Streak Ends at LGR! 
LaMonte First career Sportsman Win!

June 27, 2003; Lake Geneva, WI. -  It was a big Friday night of racing at Lake Geneva Raceway. The feature races were flawless as former champion Fran Prestay of Burlington won his first Budweiser super late model 35 lap feature in three years leading every lap of the race. Gary LaMonte of West Allis won his first career Performance unlimited sportsman 25 lap feature .Jacob Humphrey the popular Lake Geneva driver who holds the point lead took third in time, won the dash and the 20 lap feature for the S&P motorsports millennium late models and Bob Koch of McHenry, Illinois won another Anchor Towing Basic International 15 lap feature, after three claims were rejected by his fellow drivers but he didn’t and lost his car in the claim.

Gary LaMonte (#63) scored his first career Performance Unlimited Sportsman feature race here at the Lake Geneva Raceway.

Before a lap could be recorded Billy Skinner Jr. and Jerry Cowan tangled causing a complete restart.Then the green stayed out for three laps before Vincent Merry got into the wall stopping the action with Fran Prestay in front the first three laps. Prestay forged his way out front on the next green with Denny Hiffman,Chuck Duncan and Rick Corso all over the leader.Right behind this group Chad Barker was working on Sonny Schoffen the current super stock point leader in his first super late model ride.

On lap nine Hiffman drew in on the leader but Prestay was up for the challenge. The leader held the high groove with each challenger working the low as first Hiffman, then Corso tried to overcome the leader.By lap twenty fast qualifier Matt Kocourek joined the twosome at the top.

Kocourek managed to move into second drawing even with Prestay on lap twenty five. This picture remained the same for the next ten laps with no bumps or bruises as  Prestay won the race over Kocourek, Corso, Landry Potter, Jerry Freeman and a recovered Jerry Cowan in what was a great feature race.

Brian Ulrich moved in front of the millennium feature as farther back in the field Shawn Conley and Jacob Humphrey never caused a caution with their incident that scared the remaining field as everyone missed them. Ulrich had Mark Hartline working his inside but to no avail.Carrie Dygon got crossed up causing a caution on lap seven.

Ulrich held the lead one more time before Jacob Humphrey crept along side and the fight began. After a great side by side race for seven laps later Humphrey was the new leader, but four laps after that Conley spun and the new leader would have to prove himself again. This he did and in three more laps Humphrey won the feature. Ulrich never let up finishing second. Hartline, Paul Dygon, quick qualifier Jeff Goodwin and Steve Maciosek followed for another master piece of an event.

Lee Gibbs jumped in front of the sportsman feature for one lap before Rick Corso claimed the top spot. Hot on his bumper was rookie Steve Hoff, with Gibbs, Gary LaMonte and Bob Hacker. By lap eight LaMonte somehow managed to move into second with an extremely tight field behind him. Denny Norton Jr. and fast timer Jeremy Miller were dicing for the spot with LaMonte taking over the lead on lap ten.

The only caution came on lap thirteen for debris on the track in turn three. On the   restart LaMonte held off Norton Jr. and Corso for the top spot with Miller,Hoff and Jeremy Bloomberg putting on a show for the next position. Jamie Dorsey joined the cluster up front and race fans were treated to a close run to the checkered that came. LaMonte won the event with Norton ahead of Miller, Bloomberg, Dorsey and Hacker at his side for smooth finish.

Dan Giannotti actual crossed the line to win the BIC feature after taking the lap on lap five of the fifteen lap race. But Giannotti denied a claim and was dropped thirteeth as did Rod Brossart and Marty Bulter. This gave the win to Bob Koch who excepted the claim. Viadi Viadimirov, Randy Schneider, Matt Bishnell, Todd Booker and Eric Schoffen were next.

This coming Friday night Doug Rose and his Green Mamba jet dragster makes his first of two appearances for the holiday weekend. All of the regular divisions will race. Time trials begin at 6 pm. First race at 7:30pm.
