Merry Clean Sweeps Midwest Sport Trucks,
Humphrey and Gnatzig Nearly Perfect!

15 year old hometown driver Jacob Humphrey won the 20 lap S&P
motorsports millennium late model feature his first of the season and took fast time
gaining the point lead just before mid-season. Going into tonights program Brian Ulrich of
Racine was point leader, but just after taking second in time his race car smashed into
the wall ,then landed off turn one. Ulrich was not injured but his millennium late model
was heavily damaged. Defending Perfection Auto Body Legends champion Curt Gnatzig of
Hartford won the special 20 lap feature and took fast time, even with the visiting cars as
far away as Texas. Phil Schultz of Silver Lake was real happy about a lapped car at the
checkered flag as the former champion won his second Herb’s mini modified 15 lap
feature in a row.
Bob Koch of McHenry,IL. the 2001 Anchor Towing Basic International car
champion won the 15 lap feature.In the visiting Central States regional/Quality Builders
super Mini cups Brian Baldyga of Carol Stream,IL. won the dash and the 15 lap feature race
and Michael Bilderback of South Beloit,IL. continued to have control of the growing
Bandalero division as the 13 year old youngster won his fifth feature of the season.
The mini modified feature got off to a four deep racing start and looked
like it was going to be very exciting first lap.That was until Chris Marinello lost
power.As every one tried to miss him, things got ugly. When it was all over Jesse Johnson,
Hermie Schultz, Bill Trusky and Rick Lambert was not going to see lap two. No one was
injured but there was some heavily damaged race cars. Marinello was the lucky one as he
restarted at the rear after going to the pit area on his own.
Mike VanHouten led just one lap before Phil Schultz spead in front with
Curt Thomazin all over VanHouten. By lap eight Ken Johnson had worked his way into
third, then second one lap later. By then Schultz had built up a quarter lap lead.With
just a few laps to go the lapped cars were going to be a factor as Johnson inched in on
the leader.
Schultz took the high side and Johnson the low, then coming down to the wire a car that
would have been lapped if there was another lap to go, got in Johnson’s way as
Schultz pulled off another close win. Johnson took second but ended up flying off the
track in turn one trying to miss the slower car that never moved out of the way. Thomazin
was third, with Marinello fourth, Glen Vernezze was fifth and Van Houten sixth.
It took Bob Koch just five laps to gain the top spot and win the BIC feature over Vladi
Vladimirov second followed by point leader Rob Hunt, Mike Richter, Randy Schneider and
Todd Booker.
This coming Friday night marks the first appearance of the season for the 5 state strong
Great Lakes Allison legacy cars and the open wheel Formula Indy cars joining the 5 regular
divisions. Time trials begin at 6pm. Racing at 7:30 sharp.
