Johnson Scores First Mini-Modified Win of year
in Friday Opener at LGR!

Ken Johnson of Paddock Lake the defending Herb’s mini modified
champion scored the first win of the season in the non stop 15 lap feature race. Tommy
Nevoso of Trevor won the non stop millennium late model feature in the S&P motorsports
division.
Mike Fossler of Crystal Lake,IL. won the BIC 20 lap feature.Curt Gnatzig
of Hartford won the 15 lap caution free feature for 15 laps.Defending champion Vincent
Merry of Wadsworth,IL. won the sideline Motorsports 15 lap feature and Jim Veugeler of
Crystal Lake,IL. scored a clean sweep for the Rascal Outlaw cars running away with the
race for 20 laps.
Bill Trusky held the lead just two laps before Ken Johnson got the break
he needed to secure the top spot and go on to finish three lengths ahead of fast timer
qualifier Jeff Schultz a closing Mike VanHouten Roy Morrison Trusky and Hermie Schultz.
Paul Dygon slipped in front of the millennium late model feature with Shawn Connelly
putting on the pressure. Right behind them rookie Ken Joosten and Tommy Nevoso were dicing
to gain a position.
With just three laps to go somehow Nevoso moved into a challenge position
for the lead and went on to take the win over Dygon at his side, with Joosten, Jeff
Goodwin Connelly and rookie Boyd Clavert all running cars were within the straightaway of
each other in an exciting first night for the third year division.
The green flag was out and Vincent Merry shot from the back to the front before the lap
was completed winning the event over Bill Olson Todd Ross Chad Ross and BIC driver Dale
Gustum who does double duties.
Curt Gnatzig started mid pack as he used the inside and the outside to take the lead away
from Larry Will on lap two.Gnatzig then used the lapped traffic to his advantage easily
winning the race over visiting Iowa driver Chris Sevey.Florida visitor Randy Manos Sr.
didn’t fare as well getting lapped before the event ended.Herman Greinig was third
with Will, Clayton Kruse and Garrett Will completing the top six.
With just two caution periods the main focus of the race was at the front as Dave Cheney
and Mike Fossler as they performed as see saw battle for the lead. It was too close to
call but Fossler nipped a closing Randy Schneider with Cheney claiming third as Rob
Jeffords, Jeff Braum, Dan Giannotti and Greg Sheldon.
This Friday night the weekly family night continues with Basic International Car, Mini
Modifieds celebrating their tenth season of racing, Millennium Late Models, Legends and
Sport Trucks. Time trials begin at 6:30 p.m. with the first race at 7:30 p.m. Pro Moto
cross racing takes place on the east end of the property at 8 pm.
