Corso SLM Clash Winner, Hansen and Lepperd Take
Features on Day One of the O'Doul's Fall Classic!
By Dale Erdmann |
September 28, 2002; Lake Geneva, WI. - It was another excellent race
for racing at Lake Geneva Raceway Saturday with a full field of race cars heat races were
completed and feature races went to Dave Hansen of Chilton is the Wisconsin
Mini sport truck division in the 20 lap event. Matt Lepperd who races in a BIC car came
out in the Vintage race car group to win the 10 lap feature in a 57 Chevy.
The sixteen truck field was tight with Tom Gee Jr. taking the early
lead as this race would be a scorers nightmare looking like a parade lap before the first
half of the race. Hank Calmes worked on the leader for six laps before taking over the
point. On lap thirteen Nate Otrlieb slipped under the leader and looked like a sure winner
but with three laps remaining Dave Hansen crept by the leader and came home just a few
inches ahead of Calmes who nipped Otrlieb, Kyle
Calmes and Scott Bushman for a great race.
Matt Lepperd took the lead on lap four and never looked back for the Vintage car feature
for 10 laps. Dave Johnson was second with Frank Caravetta Dan Vash fourth and John Vassh
fifth.
It took Rick Corso just two laps to charge to the front of the super late model Clash of
Champions as the 2000 Mid American champion took the win just in front of Billy Skinner
Jr., Jamie Iverson the 2002 Norway speedway champion,
second generation driver Donvan Morgan was fourth and James Swan fifth in another exciting
event.
Because of the threat of early morning rain the street stock semi was run as Tom Roney won
the event over Craig Aarptmeyer who tried for the last ten laps to catch the winner but
fell just short and Tom Fay was third.
The Planet pages Mid American cars semi went to Ken Smart over Bobby Gutknecht and Ryan
Manthei.
