Gnatzig Clean Sweeps at Lake Geneva Raceway!

Point leader Curt Gnatzig of Hartford had a great night taking fast
time winning the 4 lap dash and the 20 lap Perfection Auto Body legends feature. Bob Koch
of McHenry, Illinois won the Anchor Towing Basic International cars 15 lap feature.
Bill Trusky of Silver Lake won his second Herb’s Mini modified of the
season. The event saw a season high number of race cars but a lap two racing incident sent
over half the field to the pits but no one was injured. Joshua Shaw of Vernon Hills,IL.
won his first career 20 lap feature in the S&P Motorsports millennium late model
feature.
Vincent Merry the defending champion in the sport trucks won his third 15
lap feature of the year. Jim Veugeler of Crystal Lake,IL. took advantage of a fellow
drivers unfortunate situation winning the 20 lap Rascal Outlaw feature and John Miller of
Lensing, MI. won the Formula Indy feature for 20 laps.
Lyle Kuklinski moved in front of the legends feature for the first two laps before Garrett
Will crept in front.The lead changed hands two laps later as Larry Will grabbed the top
spot for the next five go rounds. Somehow Curt Gnatzig found some open pavement on lap
nine and that made four different drivers would lead this close race.
Gnatzig would nip Larry Will for the win with Garrett Will Robb Duffek and Matt Kocourek
in the Clayton Kruse ride to complete the top six. With a season high fourteen race cars
the mini modified feature was marred by a lap two incident as 1993 champion Glen Vernezze
got hit from behind sending his car into the wall full throttle. After impact with
the wall the Vernezze car veered left collecting Hermie Schultz, Rick Lambert, Curt
Thomarin, Joe Marinello and Jeff Schultz.
No one was injured but only Marinello would return for the next green. The remainder of
the event was caution free as Bill Trusky in the former Vernezze championship car took the
lead at the drop of the green and held off six laps of challenges from Ken Johnson who
would take a very close second.Trusky won his second feature of the season with the return
of Joe Miller in third.Lee Morrison Roy Morrison and Scott Kuxhouse in his first
appearance of the year in sixth.
Rookie Boyd Calvert moved in front of the millennium late model feature as each of the
next five laps looked like a parade lap before the caution came out for a Carrie Dygon
spin in turn four.As the green came back out Calvert forged in front one more time with
Joe Rusciano and Joshua Shaw battling for second.It still looked like a first lap
formation At the half way mark with Ken Joosten and Shaw trying to challenge the leader.
Dygon spun one more time bringing the gurgling pace to a halt with just five laps to go.
Under way Clavert held his own until lap nineteen when Shaw made his move. The new leader
stayed just ahead of the field winning his first ever feature win.Calvert claimed second
with Denny Norton Jr. sub driving for Tommy Nevoso the new point leader in third. Fourth
went to Joosten fifth to Shawn Connelly and Rusciano sixth in the closest feature ever.
The BIC feature would go non stop as Bob Koch took the lead with six laps to go winning
his third feature of the season. Jeff Bremer, Randy Schneider, point leader Nick Kalteis,
fast timer Greg Sheldon and Tony Burrafato rounding out the top six in this close one.
Next Friday night marks the mid season championship races. The millennium last model
feature will have a $350 to win on the line with the help of S&P motorsports in
Burlington. The BIC cars will see a $100 to win their feature as Mertens Service in
Burlington and Anchor Towing puts up the extra cash.Time trials begin at 6pm. First race
at 7:30 pm
