RE/MAX CHALLENGE SERIES, NASCAR TOURING,
SWINGS BACK IN ACTION WITH AL SCHILL, JR MEMORIAL 150

DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. (June 24, 2002)-After a three week hiatus, competitors on the RE/MAX Challenge Series, NASCAR Touring return to action, Saturday night, June 29, at the Lake Geneva (Wis) Raceway for the 4th annual running
of the Al Schill, Jr. Memorial 150.

The event marks the sixth consecutive year the series has stopped at Lake Geneva Raceway around the July 4th holiday.  For the fourth consecutive year, the event will be run in honor of Al Schill, Jr.  Schill was a promising second generation racer on the RE/MAX Challenge Series who died at his home of apparent carbon monoxide poisoning on March 28, 1999, just hours after finishing a career best second in that season's opening event.

Saturday gets under way at 4:30 p.m. (CT) with practice for the RE/MAX Challenge Series competitors.  Qualifying is slated for 6:45 p.m. with the fastest 15 drivers earning automatic starting berths.  Five drivers will advance to the main event via a 25-lap last chance qualifier with the final four spots reserved as provisional starting spots.  The green flag will fly over the Al Schill, Jr Memorial 150 at 8:00 p.m.

Current RE/MAX Challenge Series championship point leader Steve Carlson led the final 52 laps of the 2001 Al Schill, Jr Memorial and took the win.  But all eyes were on Al Schill, Sr, making his first RE/MAX Challenge Series start of the season.   The elder Schill started 11th and charged to the front but came up short at the checkered, placing fourth.

In true story book fashion, Schill, Sr won the event, contested in his sons honor, in 2000.  Schill, who is a multiple time Lake Geneva Raceway track champion, is once again expected to contend for the victory. A pair of young Wisconsin drivers, Hubertus's Chad Barker and Central Wisconsin standout Jeremy Lepak are entered in the event.  Barker will be behind the wheel of his family owned Wynn's #38 with Lepak taking a turn in the Navy/E-Z Lube Chevrolet #45.  Both will be looking to make their RE/MAX Challenge Series debut.
