Well Deserved Win for Hermie Schultz at LGR!

Hermie Schultz of Silver Lake received a standing ovation after winning his first career
feature on the asphalt in the Herb’s mini modified 15 lap feature.
After the emotion victory Schultz said “ when you can beat the
tooth (Ken Johnson) you’ve beat the best. I hope I can continue to beat the
rest”. The mini modifieds are celebrating their 10th. anniversary this season,
Schultz’s last feature win was at Wilmot back in 1998. Since 2000 the mini mdifieds
home track is LGR. In the S&P motorsports millennium late models Mark Hartline from
Gilberts,IL.
Chris Carlson won his first 20 lap Rascal Outlaw feature of the season.
Defending sport truck champion Vincent Merry of Wadsworth,IL. won the 12 lap feature.
Point leader Curt Gnatzig of Hartford just missed a clean sweep after taking fast time and
winning the 20 lap feature for the Perfection Auto Body legend cars and another point
leader Nick Kalteis of Lake Villa, IL. won the 15 lap Basic International feature.
Mike VanHouten slipped in front of the mini modified feature with Hermie Schultz who
started in the third row outside glued to his side. Two laps later Schultz stormed in
front but never saw a big advantage as defending champion Ken Johnson moved into second on
lap five. Point leader Jeff Schultz was right on his bumper as last weeks feature winner
joined this cluster one lap later.
With three brand new drivers in the field the first one was lapped on the eleventh go
round with this foursome trying not to get caught up with any of these cars. With just
three laps to go Schultz came up on a slower car and choose the inside as Johnson had to
go real high.
That would help the leader as for the first time since lap three there was
a small margin of comfort.With the white flag out Schultz stayed in his groove and Johnson
tried everything to get by. S
chultz picked up the win with Johnson, J.Schultz, Trusky, and VanHouten
close. Hermie’s wife Karen told the biggest crowd of the year “ Hermie works on
all these cars and finally he gets to win”.
Nick Kalteis started on the pole and never looked back taking the win by a large margin
after leading every lap of the BIC feature. Bob Koch was second with Rob Hunt third, Greg
Sheldon, Dan Meyer, and Dan Giannotti rounding out the top six.
Bryan Catalope in his first visit here grabbed the lead of the legends feature with David
Cerer and Curt Gnatzig next.It took just five laps before Gnatzig mounted his challenge
with Catalope holding his own until lap eight when the lead changed. Gnatzig held on for
the win by a small margin over Herman Greinig, Robb Duffek, Catalope, Lyle Kuklinski and
Steve Licht
in another close main event.
Tommy Nevoso in a see saw battle with Mark Hartline put on a show for the millennium
feature race. Hartline went on to win the race over Nevoso, point leader Paul Dygon,
rookie Boyd Culvert, Todd Stoner and Carrie Dygon.
Vincent Merry shot off of his outside pole starting position and went on to win the sport
truck feature over Lance ross Denny Norton Jr. in his first truck run Bill Olson and fast
timer Chad Ross completed the top five.
Chris Carlson led every lap of the Rascal Outlaw feature winning by a slim margin stopping
second place finisher Jim Veugeler of a another clean sweep. Dave Colletti was third with
Craig Carlson, Mark Findley and John Benkert were next.
This coming Friday night the Formula Indy cars and the Rascal Outlaws join the regular
five divisions.Time trials begin at 6:15 pm. and first race at 7:30 pm. sharp.
