2001 Lake Geneva Raceway schedule released!

February 20, 2001; Lake Geneva, WI. Kevin Dawson owner and promoter of the Lake Geneva Raceway complex announced today, the 2001 race season. The first event will actually take place, 26 miles from the raceway in Bristol, Wisconsin, on March 23rd.24th.and 25th .

The 24th annual BARS "Let's Go Racing" motorsports show will kick off the oval track season which begins on Saturday night April 14th. The motorsports show has been a part of the agenda for many seasons. This years show will again be at the Original Outlets Mall, which is just 7 miles from Kenosha, at the intersections of I-94 and Highway 50.

On opening night, four divisions of race cars will be here. The super late models, lead by defending champion, Landry Potter out of Delavan. Others back include Kent Burkoth,former champions Al Schill and Jamie Wallace, Brad Durbin, 2000 rookie of the year Shane Bishop. Also competing in the Late Model class are new comers Jeff Lorenz the 2000 super stock champion along with Jerry Cowan, runner up in points last season in Super Stocks, former mid american champion Rick Corso and 2000 sport truck champion James Olson, to name just afew.

In the McHenry Limo super stocks,the field is wide open with the departure of the top three. Adam Regnier, Mike Kooi, Doug Peterson, Al Kuphal, Andy Szymanskij, 2000 rookie of the year Mike Bell and three drivers from the Antioch connection, Jeremy Olson, John Maki Jr. and Craig Mertes are all capable of winning a title.

The Performance Unlimited sportsman group will see 5 time champion Scott Poritz defending his crown. Tough competition comes from Brian Baker, rookie of the year Zac Deeringer, a co-team made up by former champions, John Janssen and Denny Norton Jr. along with Mike Monroe.

In the Sideline sport trucks, runner up Chad Phillips is one of some of twelve drivers looking for a championship this season. The Ross family will try to stop that from happening,along with sport driver Eric Roberts and Vincent Merry.

Some of the special events throughout of year include three Mid American point series events on April 26th, June 23rd. and as part of the O'Doul's October Classic, which will be on the 29th. and 30th. of September (just the way it works out this season). The Midwest Enduro Stock Cars Series will be here May 28th. September 3rd. and October 21st. There will be three Lions Club events June 18th, July 15th, and August 20th. This will be the 32nd year the raceway has donated the facility for the local clubs which come from Sun Prairie to the north, Saint Francis to the east, Genoa City to the south, Cambridge to the west and all points in between. Some 3000 plus fans come out to cheer their local club on, with  proceeds going to the communities and BOLD, a group that supports the blind with their outings.

NASCAR returns to the raceway on June 30th. for the "Al Schill Memorial" Re/Max 150 lap event. The largest three day race program in Wisconsin will be September 28th. bringing in the annual small car world championship. Then Saturday September 29th and the 30th. the 10th. annual O'Doul's October Classic takes place. The season finale October 6th. will be the "run what you brung" show.

Professional motorcross racing will be starting it's weekly schedule on May 5th. on the stadium dirt course. Regional events will be Sunday June 17th.July 15th. August 19th. September 16th. and October 21st. These will be district 16 points series events .

The Family Fun night shows begin on Friday May 18th. with up to seven divisions competing. The BIC cars, millennium late models, Herb's mini modifieds and legend cars will be here each of the 13 weeks, along with Formula Indy cars, Wisconsin Allison legacy series, sport trucks, Dwarf cars, Rascal Outlaws and the first appearance of the super mini cups, coming in during the season.

There are season pass specials until April 7th. The raceway offers a family section, with no smoking or alcohol beverages allowed in that area.
