The Last Lap Bar and Grill were on hand along with a good size crowd on an ideal weather evening for racing as multi time champion Al Schill of Franklin made an appearance and won the super late model 50 lap championship feature. Jack Rubach of Burlington made it two in a row by winning the 35 lap feature for the McHenry Limo super stocks.Landry Potter the highly talented driver from Genoa City won his second straight super late model crown finishing nineteenth in the feature after a broken tailing arm put him out of competition. Jack Rubach a mild mannered second year driver proved that being legal all season long wasnt bad plus taking fast time sixteen weeks in a row didnt hurt either and along with three feature wins and some high finishes helped him win his first championship in the highly competitive super stock division.Nick Kalteis of Lake Villa,Illinois won the wild 20 lap Basic International car feature and John Vaasch of Racine for the third week in a row won the heat and took fast time for the new vintage cars.
Rookie Jeff Way moved in front of the
field with Erik Darnell, Al Schill, Jerry Cowan and Terry Patnode all over the leader. As
the field shuffled for a position it remained tight with Darnell and Schill putting the pressure
on Way.By lap seven Schill got around Darnell and two laps later after a battle at the top
there was a new leader. Right behind this group Billy Baumeister was trying to get around
Patnode with Joe Fischer in the Jamie Artelt car and Denny Hiffman was along side him as
they entered lap nine. Once in front Schill crept to a three car advantage as Way kept Darnell from any challenge but Baumeister was on the move gaining third on lap fourteen.Out came the caution on lap fifteen when Landry Potters tailing arm broke while running mid field. This tightened up a field that was still looking like they were in the first lap of action. Schill scooted in front of Way at the wave of the next green with Baumeister Darnell now Rick Corso and Patnode in the hunt with thirty laps to go. On lap twenty eight Jamie Wallace and Fischer got together causing the final slowdown. Schill walked away from the field and went
on to win the event. The battle was for second throughout the event as Corso nipped
Darnell at the wire with Way fourth and Patnode fifth. A post race inspection dropped
Corso from the finish after having what the tech crew deemed an illegal carburetor. This
moved everyone behind him up one position and Kent Burkoth was now credited with
fifth. First year driver Mike Gunderson moved in
front of the pack as the super stock feature began.Norm Paulsen in his newly purchased
race car was second with Tom Fay right along side him. Rob Summer had problems and dropped
out on lap three with everyone close. Trevor Mock got into Mike Bell as Mike Kooi was at
the right place at the wrong time trying to avoid the mess in front of him bringing out
the first caution on lap five just after Paulsen grabbed the lead. Paulsen and Gunderson dueled for the lead
one more time with Nick Nelson next. For the next five laps it was too close to call
before Nelson inched in front of Gunderson. Right behind this cluster were Paul Konieczny,
Mike Olson and now Jack Rubach as the field entered lap twenty. Mock got together with
another driver on lap twenty three as Tom Roney got hooked with him stopping the race one
more time. Each time Paulsen pulled away from the field as the restart brought Konieczny and AJ Dunn up to challenge the leader.Just four laps later Rubach was knocking at the door with the front two dropping to the new leader on lap twenty eight.Pete Olson moved up to second on lap thirty. Time ran out for any big challenge as Rubach won the contest with Olson next Paulsen was third with Dave Melahn fourth and Konieczny fifth. Bill Hovat took the lead of the BIC feature
with Brad Norgard and Todd Miller fighting for second. It took Nick Kalteis just five more
laps to claim the front spot and went on to win his third feature of the season. Quick
timer Jeff Baum was second with Bill Webb, Randy Schneider and Todd Booker rounding out
the top five of this non stop event.
