Randy Schneider wins both features
and hears wedding bells!

August 17, 2001; Lake Geneva, WI. -  It was a perfect night for nights and the third to the last Friday night

Family fun night shows at Lake Geneva Raceway was an exciting one.Randy Schneider of Burlington a regular competitor in the Basic International division won his first feature 20 lap feature of the season after winning the mock feature and then proposed to his Girl Friend Cory in front of the crowd. Joe Miller of Kenosha won another Herb’s mini modified 15 lap feature with a last lap at the wire thrilling victory.

Point leader Al Smith of Rockford,IL. took fast time and won the 20 lap Perfection Auto Body legends division events.Tommy Nevoso of Trevor won his third15 lap millennium late model feature of the 2001 season.Eric Roberts of Zion,Illinois won the Sideline Motorsports sport truck feature and Jim Veugeler of Crystal Lake,IL. had a real good night by first breaking his own track qualifying record with a time that most super late models would love to turn, a 16.215 seconds on the third mile track win his heat and the 15 lap feature for a clean sweep.

The program was marred by a first lap accident in the mini modified heat when Glen Vernezze got hooked with Duck Wack with both cars smashing hard into the wall.Both drivers were shook up but not seriously injured both cars how ever received extensive damage.

Jeff Schultz flew in front of the mini modified feature with Bill Trusky and Rich Musgrave next. Ken Johnson worked on Musgrave three laps before getting round him. Quickly Hermie Schultz followed Johnson with Joe Miller next.It was a tight field with everyone waiting for a mistake.Trusky moved along side the leader on lap five but could not hold on to the top spot as they diced for the front spot.

Trusky grabbed the lead on lap seven and started to move away from the field but Johnson got round Schultz one lap later and the chase was on.With five laps to go it was now getting crowded at the front with Johnson,J.Schultz Miller and Roy Morrison now fifth all after the leader.It wasn’t until the third to the last lap before Miller would get past J.Schultz and Johnson.It looked like time would run out any challenge but with just one lap to go Miller was closing in on Trusky. Coming off turn two it was a dead heat going into three Trusky still looked like he’d pull off his first win.Coming out of turn four the pair was dead even again at at the wire Miller nipped Trusky for his third win of the season. Trusky held onto to second with Johnson at his side Morrison was next with Jeff Schultz holding onto fifth.

Earlier in the season Randy Schneider said that if he’d win the feature in the BIC cars he’d propose to his girlfriend of 8 years. Because LGR wanted to help Randy out, the first feature had a plan that nineteen other drivers knew about (everyone but Randy). Starter Dave Rex Jr. waved the green flag and Schneider moved from the third row inside and into the lead by lap one. The white came out and Schneider slowed but everyone else slowed even more. That gave the win to Schneider who stopped in front of the line after wondering what was up.

Announcer Dave Kamholtz went onto the track and got Randy out of the car as Cory was brought to the track.The plan was revealed and Schneider got on his knee and proposed to her. The crowd gave them a big cheer and the real feature followed. Dan Giannotti moved in front of the field with Brad Sherer Schneider and Nick Estes all over the leader. It took Schneider five laps to gain the lead but by lap eleven Todd Booker was a his side for that front spot.

This pair diced for the top spot the next nine laps with Schneider nipping Booker at the wire in the closest BIC feature to date. Bruce Berry was third with Tony Buerafato fourth and Chris Koleno Sr. fifth.

This coming Friday night the Great Lakes Allison Legacy series will try to get their first show of the season in. Their last appearance back on June 1st. brought a rain out as drivers from five states were here. The sport trucks will also be here along with the regular divisions. There will be no increase in admission with time trials beginning at 6 pm. racing at 7:30. Pro Moto cross racing takes place on the east end of the track grounds.
