Jeff Baum of Gurnee,IL. had a clean sweep of the Basic International car action. Jeff Dunn (#34) won the BIC feature at Lake Geneva Friday night and traded his trophy for this tire!?!

Lyle Kuklinski jumped in front of the legends feature with Joe Scala and Robb Duffek next. Quick Curt Gnatzig who started in the fourth row outside slipped into second on lap five and into the lead one lap later.

Last weeks feature winner Clayton Kruse followed the new leader and the battle went on. Visiting Tommy Jordan who set fast time and started sixth row outside was up to third on lap ten.  On lap eleven JP Weber in his first night here was being lapped and made contact with the other Hartsville driver Eric King who was running fourth causing damage to his mount. King stalled just going into the pit area with front end problems ruining his chances of finishing the event as the only caution appeared.

On the restart Gnatzig and Kruse put on a show for the lead,as Jordan was just behind them. Point leader Al Smith joined the fray at the top with only a wisker separating the top cars. With four laps to go Jordan got under Kruse but didn’t look like he’d have time to challenge the leader. Two laps later the white flag was displayed Jordan was just about one foot ahead of Gnatzig as they ran nearly even. Kruse held the edge over Smith. Coming out of turn two Gnatzig was just in front again, as Kruse held back Smith. Into three Kruse spun with the field passing him by, at the wire Jordan forged in front with Gnatzig second, Smith was third, with Scala fourth and Kuklinski fifth in a great race.

The Formula Indy feature went non stop as Neil Gillentine led the first nine laps before Tom Cormack worked his way through the field after starting third row inside. On lap ten Cormack charged in front and going on for his second win here this season. Gillentine had a lapped car stop his quest to regain the top spot finishing second, with veteran Vern Brown third, Keith Howard was next and John Zeilinga fifth.

The mini modified feature was close as Jeff Schultz in his first week back grabbed the lead at the off set of the main event. Hermie Schultz, Jeff’s father moved from second row outside and into second at the end of lap one. Duck Wack and Rich Musgrave were next as the leader pulled ahead of the field by lap four holding a comfortable margin to the pack. Bill Trusky moved into third after a good battle with Wack.

Joe Miller who started near the rear of the field was up to fourth challenging Trusky for his spot. It was a three way fight for that front spot as Jeff Schultz held the advantage. Scott Kuxhouse in the vacationing Ken Johnson mount was now fourth on lap nine waiting for a mistake from the threesome. Miller inched ahead of Hermie and then before the lap ended into the lead after the leader ever so slightly slowed.

A new three way battle developed with just three laps to go but Miller held on for the win as Kuxhouse edged Hermie Schultz for second Trusky was fourth with Lee Morrison taking fifth in a close no stop event.

The twenty car BIC feature brought Dan Giannotti in front for just three laps before Nick Kalties shot in front with Jeff Baum already up to third after starting in the seventh row inside. At the half way point  Baum was already the leader as the caution came out for debris on the surface.  The last half of the race Randy Schneider chased the eventual winner Baum, with Bill Webb taking third. Ken Knapik was fourth and Kalties rounding out the top five. After the feature the top three drivers were

Asked to report to the start/finish line for their trophy presentation. At that time a “let’s make a deal” contest began. Each driver was asked to trade their trophy for what’s begin door number one two or three. Baum picked the old tire behind door number one. Schneider received the best prize behind door three, a $700 Dish Satellite system for his home.Webb didn’t choose he kept his trophy.

Friday night August 3rd. marks the last month of the family fun night programs for the 2001 with just five nights to go. Joining the regular divisions will be the sport trucks. Time trials begin at 6 pm. racing at 7 p.m. sharp
