New records on Friday Night
at Lake Geneva Raceway!

June 8, 2001; Lake Geneva, WI. The weather was close to ideal and the largest crowd since this program began last season came out to witness a record field of race cars at Lake Geneva Raceway Friday night.

“Dr. Tooth” Ken Johnson of Park Ridge,Illinois broke the winning streak Rich Musgrave established by winning the 15 lap Herb’s mini modified feature race. This was the first win of the season for the defending champion who took fast time and second in the dash. Rookie Tom Ross of Wadsworth,IL. Nearly scored a sweep of the Sideline Motorsports sport trucks by winning his heat and the 12 lap feature. Rick Corso of McHenry, IL. won the 20 lap millennium late model feature, his second win in arow for the Former Mid American champion. Chris Carnes of Mchesney Park,IL. won the 20 lap Perfection Auto Body legends feature and the dash event .Brian Baldyga won the first ever mini cup 20 lap feature as the Carol Stream,IL. took the win by inches. Wally Kroncke of Kenosha won his first 20 lap Basic International Cars feature, besting a field of 61 drivers here tonight.

Just as the green appeared in the mini modified feature, Bruce Brandenburger dropped out with problems with Hermie Schultz out front for the first four laps.Joe Miller grabbed the top spot for lap five, before Ken Johnson slipped in front. The race was not over as Rich Musgrave chased Miller for the next five laps, securing second with nine laps to go. The challenge never came as Johnson cruised to small win margin. Musgrave was second, with third. Glen Verneeze was fourth and Duck Wack fifth at his side.

Wally Kroncke led ever laps of the twenty five lap BIC feature with Ken Knaak along side the winner at the wire. James Neu was third ,Bruce Barry next followed by Kevin Day and Dave Spence.

The visiting mini cups had lots of action starting with lap five when Rich Dawson and Dick Baldyga tangled bringing the feature undera caution. Ken Jones led since the get go, charged back out front with the next green. Baldyga finally secured second with jst five laps to go, with Jones about five lengths ahead.

The first lapped car got involved two laps later and now it was race to the to the wire. Jones lost the lead on lap fifteen when Baldyga inched in front, just as Jarrod Brandon made contact with another race car causing him to flip onto the fence. The race was checkered with Baldyga the winner. Jones held onto second with Tim Toussaint third and Tony Rendina fourth.

The millennium late model feature was marred by a racing incident that caused Jack Kossow to crash into the wall. Kossow was shaken up but his race car received major damage. After coming out of the car , Kossow talked to his wife who came to the fence to see his condition. Rick Corso didn’t have an easy time winning the race as last weeks feature winner Luke Westenberg moved out front after dicing with Corso for the last six laps. Corso used every move in the book to cross the line at the checkered in first. Russ Blakley was third and Tommy Nevoso fourth.

Next Friday night the open wheel Rascal Outlaws and sport trucks join the BIC cars, Millennium Late models, mini modifieds and Legend cars. Coming up in two weeks will be Palmyra night. Everyone with proper ID from that town will be admitted free at the spectator gate. The late model feature will have a $500 price tag for the win. A large field of Jefferson late models are expected to take on the regular Friday night cars. Time trials are at 6 pm. Racing at 7:30 pm. sharp.
