Prestay
tops Lake Geneva Super Late Model action!
Fran Prestay moved off his pole starting position to gain the front spot, from the get go. The race was far from over, as Wayne Freimund scooted in front on lap two. It then became a see/saw battle for that top spot. As now Jerry Mueller was right behind the lead cars, just looking for an opportunity to move in front. By lap five, Kent Burkoth was along side Mueller and within two laps, third place would change hands with Burkoth gaining the spot. On lap eight the battle for seventh turned ugly, as Brad Durbin and Shane Bishop tangled. Just as the green reappeared third place Mueller lost power and the field went everywhere trying to miss him. The next green Prestay inched in front of Burkoth, Freimund, Joe Fischer and Landry Potter. Midway the leader had a comfortable lead, but the race behind him had positions too close to call. It was a five way fight for second, with Potter gaining some pavement, as he moved in on Burkoth. Fast timer Jeff Storm was now making his presence felt with Jamie Wallace looking for an opening. With five laps to go, Potter's exhaust worked it's way outside the body and the black flag was shown.
Then Freimund and Fischer diced for third, as no one gave an inch. Suddenly last weeks feature winner Bill Skinner joined this cluster. With the white flag shown, everyone knew it was Prestay's race to win or lose, but behind him, no one could make that call. At the wire Prestay was about five cars ahead, with Burkoth hanging on to second. Fischer nipped Freimund for third, with Storm taking fifth and Skinner just ahead of two other drivers for sixth, in a very close contest.
The super stock feature brought twenty drivers for the call, as Dave Lohse grabbed the lead over Dan Tschida, Mike Bell and Tom Fay. By lap five Bell was along side of Tschida, with Doug Peterson just waiting for a mistake. On lap nine Peterson had just got past Bell and Tschida, when Fay got pinched into the wall, as the protection barrels went flying everywhere and the caution appeared. When the green reappeared Peterson didn't let Lohse get any advantage, with Mike Kooi, Adam Szymanskyj and quick qualifier John Janssen in a tight group. On lap twelve Adam Regnier who had won the last two features got around Bell and was closing in on Janssen. Starter Dave Rex warned Janssen two laps later to pick a lane. Now Dan Huber in his last race with that beautiful Dodge Charger was right behind Regnier. On lap fifteen coming off turn two, Regnier got inside Janssen as they made contact, causing Regnier to spin out of control. The caution came out and Janssen got the black flag. Regnier was sent to the rear and Lohse was still the leader. With the green back out, Huber coasted to the pits with problems and Lorenz crept into fifth, right on Szymanskyj's tail. The race for second had Peterson and Kooi in a see/saw battle, as Lohse moved to his best cushion of the race. Jeremy Olson who changed his number for better lucky, got squeezed into the wall on lap nineteen and the final caution came out. It looked like Lohse would pull off his first win, as Peterson, then Lorenz tried to unseat him. But as the cars entered turn three with only a quarter lap to go, Lohse drifted wide, as did Peterson. Lorenz used that mistake to gain the lead at the wire, just three feet ahead of Lohse, and Jerry Cowan who nipped Peterson for position at the line. Followed by Szymanskyj and Kooi. A post race inspection moved Regnier into sixth, after Lohse's DQ for compression.
Rookie Terry Crowell moved in front of the sportsman feature, with Dan Erikson briefly in second, before Jocko Terrault flew by. Crowell held onto the lead just two more laps as Terrault was hooked up tonight. On lap eight the throttle stuck on Crowell's mount and the caution appeared after he flew off turn three. No one was injured, but LeRoy Potter used that incident to gain some pavement on the leader. Just passed midway things got wild, first Brian Baker andSscott Poritz tangled causing another slowdown. Then one lap later Zac Deeringer and Potter got together, with Potter out of the event with a flat tire after that racing incident. With just two laps to go, there was problems in turn two and three, causing a halt to the action. On the restart Monroe pounced on the leader and flew in front for the win. Deeringer took second, with Jerry Freeman nipping Terrault for fourth and Eikson rounded out the top six finishers.
