Potter
proves best in Lake Geneva Super Late action!
Landry Potter of Delavan won his third super late model 30 lap feature, on Burlington Camping and Travel / Imagetec night. Adam Regnier of McHenry, Illinois ran away with the 25 lap super stock feature and defending champion, Scott Poritz of nearby Lyons won the accident plagued sportsman 16 lap feature, that took over one half hour to run. The large crowd on hand waited for the trailer race, but it ended after five laps, with fourteen units entered, as one of the units caught on fire, after the fuel tank ruptured. The Lake Geneva Raceway safety crew was commended for their excellent efforts of containing and then putting out the large fire. There was no one injured in that incident. Rookie driver Shane Bishop moved in front of the super late model feature, with Jerry Mueller right on his tail. Quickly Landry Potter who started third row inside slipped under Mueller on lap three and headed towards the leader. Lap five, produced the first caution, after Garrett Fait turned Denny Hiffman, which collected first nighter Jeff Way, Mike Vogt, Terry Patnode, and Rick Dittman. No one was injured, but the night for Fait,Vogt and Dittman was over.
Potter grabbed the lead on the restart, as Bishop got into Don Collins, causing another halt to the action, on lap six. All out racing finally began, as Potter had Mueller trying to get the lead. Joe Fischer was now in third, with Jamie Wallace, Scott Poritz in the Brad Durbin car and Kent Burkoth extremely tight. By lap fifteen, Potter was way out front with Mueller and Fischer putting on a show for second. These two diced back and forth, until a lap twenty incident caused Mueller to fall back to fourth, as while Wallace moved in on Fischer. Time ran out for any challenge of the leader, with Potter five car lengths ahead of Wallace who nipped Fischer right at the line. Mueller was fourth, with Burkoth and Al Schill next. A post race inspection removed Fischer from his placement, as Billy Skinner now claimed sixth, as the entire field was moved up a position. The super stock feature got off to a rocky start, as someone's bumper was on the track, causing the first stop. Al Kuphal grabbed the lead, only to have a racing incident causing the leader to lose lots of pavement and positions after getting together with Greg Janutka. Then two laps later Dan Huber and Kuphal got suck together and the final caution came out. This was the break Adam Regnier needed early this early in the race. Regnier found himself jumping in front on the next green and sailing ahead, with nineteen other drivers trying move up. Denny Norton Jr. was now second, with Janutka and Doug Peterson side by side for third. Rookie Dan Tschida moved behind these two, with Andy Szymanskyj just waiting for a mistake by these four front running drivers. Another rookie, Jack Rubach, moved along side Szymanskyj, scooting past on lap seven. It was side by side excitement as the field behind Regnier was too close for comfort. The leader lapped his first car on lap seventeen, as John Janssen moved under Norton for position, after a good battle. Shaping up into a great race for second Jerry Cowan was all over Janssen with just five laps to go. Regnier cruised to the win with Cowan second, Janssen third, followed by Rubach, Tschida and Norton in the top six spots.
The sportsman feature was just two laps old, when Brian Baker and Jerry Freeman tangled in turn two. Rookie Joshua Shaw, had nowhere to go and smashed hard into this twosome. This caused a long delay, as the cars were bonded together by the impact. Finally underway, on lap four Mike Monroe, Terry Crowell, Eric Roberts and Shawn Utphall got together. Monroe headed to the pits with a flat tire and came out just as the green reappeared. Crowell led that opening lap after the caution, before a hooked up LeRoy Potter flew in front. On lap eight another slowdown came, when Randy Holmes looped his mount in turn two. On the restart, Dan Erikson drilled second place runner Joe Francisco, in front of the crowd, stopping the race again. It looked like real racing would finally begin, as the next four laps produced some good action. Mike Lange challenged the leader for the next two laps, before Scott Poritz who waited for a break got one. Just as Poritz slipped under Potter after another two lap tussle, the caution came out again and then yet another time a single lap later, causing starter Dave Rex Jr. to call the end of this event on lap sixteen. Poritz was the winner, with Potter, Monroe, Lange, Monty Coffman and Utphall next. This Saturday night Hi Liter Graphics sponsors the program. The annual Junior Fan Club coin grab will take place on the track. The Sportsman cars will join the Super Late Models and Super Stocks for this show. Time Trials begin at 6 p.m. and racing starts promptly at 7:30 p.m. RESULTS SUPER LATE MODELS: SUPER STOCKS: SPORTSMAN: |
