Schill bests rival and beats the rain at LGR!
By Dale Erdmann

August 12, 2000; Lake Geneva, WI. - It was a perfect night for racing, not a cloud in the sky, over 100 race cars in the pit area and one of the largest crowds to witness a race program here since Kevin Dawson purchased the facility in 1984. But rain washed out the super stock and sport truck features, just as the checkered flag fell at the end of the Incar modified feature. Al Schill of Franklin, the defending champion in the super late model division, ran away with the 30 lap feature, his fourth win of the season. Jeff Lane of Knightstown, Indinana, the 1998 Incar champion, made a clean sweep of the Jasper engines and transmission / 5 Star stock car Bodies sponsored events, for the traveling series, much to the delight of the overflow crowd.

Al Schill (#14) took home his fourth Super Late Model win of the season in dominating fashion!

Terry Patnode moved out front of the twenty car super late model feature, leading the first four laps, before Eddie May inched in front. The race was very physical as it remained like the parade lap with the exception of the top three spots. May led just two laps before Al Schill bursted out front. With a cluster behind him, there was no advancement, in this tight field. Second place May, now had Fran Prestay, Brad Durbin, Bill Skinner and Larry Los all over him, but the 1984 champion held the edge, before the race came to a halt on lap twelve, as Shane Bishop and Joe Fischer tangled, causing the only stowdown of this event.

On the restart Schill had Prestay and May banging on the door, but the veteran driver held onto the top spot, moving to a one car lead, as the next two diced for second. Within five laps, Schill and Prestay were single file, with a small margin of comfort. But right behind these two, May had Skinner along side of him and Durbin had Los right next door. Visiting Wayne Freimund was next, with Jamie Wallace trying to move up. With just ten laps to go, Schill was starting to walk the field, as Prestay began to fade. Skinner crept up on the second place runner and moved around him on lap twenty two.

Quickly Durbin scooted around May in a traffic jam situation, not letting Skinner gain any pavement. Schill had now moved to a ten car advantage, with the next twelve positions up for grabs. The final four laps were tough, as Schill won the event. Second place went to Skinner, with Durbin, right behind. Wallace nipped May right at the line and Landry Potter got Los at the same location, for an extremely tight race.

He mastered the Modifieds!  Jeff Lane (#11) the 1998 INCAR Modified champion adapted quickly to Lake Geneva Raceway's third mile progressively banked asphalt oval.  Lane dominated the division taking home a clean sweep before a packed house! 81200b.jpg (17003 bytes)
