Al
Schill Sr., wins RE/MAX Challenge Series tour event
in honor of his son!

July
1, 2000; Lake Geneva, WI. - Hollywood
couldn't have written a better script Saturday night at the Lake Geneva Raceway as Al
Schill, Sr. scored an emotional win in the RE/MAX Challenge Series, NASCAR Touring Al
Schill, Jr. Memorial 150. The win was Schill's sixth career series win, but he admitted
that this was his biggest.
"This one is just the tops," said Schill. "Little Al was riding
along with me the whole way." The junior Schill was a promising young star on the
RE/MAX Challenge Series who passed away at his home on March 29, 1999 after finishing
second in that season's opening event.
Schill, who started ninth in the 24-car field, battled tooth and nail with leader Steve
Carlson for nearly 30 laps before finally getting under Carlson and making the pass stick.
"I knew I was running him hard and wearing his tires out," said Schill.
"But mine were wearing right with him, it was just a matter of whose was gonna
last."
Carlson settled for runner up honors with Eddie Hoffman rounding out the top three.
"He ran he hard and wore my tires out," said Carlson. "If I have to
lose to anyone in this event, I don't mind losing to Al." Jon Lemke finished fourth
with Bud Pole Fast Qualifier Travis Kvapil placing fifth. Rookie Jeff Kendall, Brian
Hoppe, J.R. Roahrig, Tim Sauter and Justin Diercks rounded out the top ten.
Carlson maintains a 79-point advantage in the championship chase over
Lemke as the tour next heads to Madison International Speedway for the running of the
Pepsi 250 on July 11.
