HEAVY METAL ELIGIBILITY 2004
Any 1960 or newer full size platform pickup truck, van, suburban, blazer, jeeps, etc. 6
cylinder and 8 cylinder engines allowed. 2 or 4 wheel drive. If 4 wheel drive mustremove
front drive shaft. No duallys allowed.
Body
All glass must be removed except front windshield. Rear window can be left in if you are
using a fuel cell or boat tank in the box. If Lexan front windshield is used, window
bracing must be in place with a minimum of three 3/8" solid bars. All exterior trim
including lights, body moldings, mirrors, etc. must be removed. Drivers door must be
bolted,welded, or chained shut. Passenger door can remain operational on stock hinges and
latches.All other doors and tail gates must also be secured (welded, chained, cabled,
etc.). Hoods must only be secured with hood pins. No other latching devices allowed.
Vehicles with sun roofs must remove glass and cover roof hole with a minimum of 16 gage
steel, no aluminum, welded or riveted, NO SCREWS. Any exterior holes from lights or rust
may be covered with aluminum or metal and riveted or welded, NO SCREWS.
Gas Tanks
If stock gas tank is mounted between the frame rails, it can be used. Any saddle tank that
is mounted outside of the frame is not allowed. You may use a boat tank or 8 gallon fuel
cell, if using any of these tanks, they must be mounted in the pickup truck box forward of
the rear axle. Tanks must be secure. If using one of these tanks in a suburban or a van
tank must be mounted forward of the rear axle, and mounted in a enclosed case to keep fuel
tanks separated from driver. If stock tank is located behind the rear axle, it must be
removed.
Interior
All flammable material can be removed. Full factory dash must be kept in place. Drivers
seat can be changed. Window nets allowed and recommended. Stock seat belts with shoulder
strap required. After market full race harness recommended. Steel protector plate may be
added to the drivers door. No gutting of interior steel panels, door panels or bracing
allowed.
Roll Bars
Roll bars are highly recommended. If equipped, it is your responsibility to construct a
cage or roll bar capable of protecting your from injury. 2" diameter by .095"
thick tubing recommended. No portion of the roll bar is to pass through the firewall. The
roll bar is to mount to the floor pan with steel plates. Roadster style bodies must have
roll bar, i.e. removable top.
Batteries
Stock location and must be securely mounted and tied down. Batteries must be covered
protect from shorting out.
Brakes
Stock as delivered from manufacture. No modification. Must be capable of locking all 4
wheels. Stock proportioning valves only.
Transmission and Axles
Stock as delivered from manufacture. No modifications. Working forward and reverse gears.
Exhaust Systems
Required. 3" maximum diameter exhaust pipe with muffler. Catalytic converter may be
removed or gutted. Exhaust system must run from engine to somewhere behind driver under
floor plan. Penalty laps will be assessed if you lose any part of your exhaust.
Steering and suspension
Stock as delivered from manufacture. No modifications or after market performance parts.
Must maintain stock ride attitude.
Cooling System
Stock as delivered from manufacture. Fan shroud required. No antifreeze, water only.
Tires and Wheels
No split rim wheels. Maximum wheel width is 8". Maximum tire cross section is 265
millimeters or 10.5". Maximum wheel size is 16". Broadline Dot approved tires
only, no racing tires, any aspect ratio.
Engines
Stock as delivered from manufacture. Complete stock motor. NO MODIFICATIONS or aftermarket
performance parts allowed. Removal of excess wiring, air compressors, smog pumps, heater
and air conditioning boxes and coils may be removed. Bumpers
Stock bumpers only. Must be chained, or cabled securely to the frame to prevent from
falling off.
Payout
Payout is based on car count. 100% pay back on entries. |
